With the uncertain weather of April comes the uncertainty of the economy. Despite rain or shine, we are here to serve the remodeling needs of the community. Community also extends to our favorite young people's sports organization, which we sponsor every year: ABGSL (Albany-Berkeley Girls Softball League). The team above goes back a few years, but we'll get a photo of this year's team soon. Go Orange Crush!

Splash The Color

Kitchen remodel in Oakland Realtors inevitably caution their clients away from colorful makeovers of their homes. "Not good for resale purposes," they practically chant it like a mantra. "Buyers want to see neutral colors so that they can choose their own." We enjoy playing the devil's advocate on this one. Be daring and go for some exciting color in your home. Choose one wall to splash with deep crimson, flirty periwinkle, or delicious avocado green. Here are a few pointers: - Select a room that needs livening up.
- Select a wall in the room that doesn't get a lot of direct sunlight.
- Choose a color that you love and want to live with but that also harmonizes with the existing colors in the room.
- Paint some test patches on the wall to see what you like best.
- Try out different shades of the color in your test patches.
- Remember that colors leaning toward blue will be calm and tranquil, and colors leaning toward red will be exciting and stimulating.
If you like the idea of turning up the 'color volume' in a room but are unsure of your own choices, consult an interior decorator or color consultant. |

Steam-room shower stall with Grohe fixtures and recessed accessory ledges tiled in faux-wood porcelain
April Shower Stalls
The shower stall could be the central focus of a bathroom instead of hiding in the corner as a sequestered recess. It depends on how much of your budget you want to put into the details. For some, the countertops are king and require an eye-catching granite or marble slab or intriguing porcelain tilework. For others, the cabinets will be the primary focus, gleaming with a satiny finish and dramatic wood grain patterns.
Now the shower stall, once relegated to lowly status and plagued by moldering shower curtains or rusting, stuck sliding doors, has elegant options these days. You can line it with faux stone porcelain tile, slate, limestone, marble or granite tile. The shower pan can be a solid 'terrazo' pan, or it can be lined with small tiles that match the walls (small to be able to slope to the drain).
You can have a steam-shower, multiple showerheads pulsing towards you from several directions, and a hand-held shower fixture to boot.
You can choose floor-to-ceiling glass doors, a fixed glass shield and step-in option, or how about a Euro-style open shower with a rounded curtain rod?
You can have recessed ledges to hold your shampoos and soaps, a bench to sit and shower on, or a triangle ledge nestled in the corner.
Most importantly, your shower stall needs to conform to the building codes, your lifestyle and your budget. So choose wisely, shower and prosper.
