Libby
Dear Fellow REALTORS® and Affiliates,

It is my pleasure to extend our Members and Affiliates an invitation to join us at our upcoming Annual Meeting and Installation of Officers and Directors. We will hold our Annual Meeting on September 22, 2010 at the Squantum Association in Riverside, RI. This year, we are pleased to welcome 2011 RIAR President Stephen Antoni  to install our Officers and Directors. Don't miss this important Board event - it is great for networking and previewing the resources and tools the Board provides to you!

Congratulations to Robert Scaralia for his nomination and selection as our 2010 REALTOR® of the Year. In addition to his business, civic and REALTOR® commitments, Rob dedicated his time and leadership expertise to the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS®. Rob spear-headed several projects and was instrumental in leading change and growth within our local Board in 2010!  I would also like to congratulate those REALTORS® who were nominated for 2010 REALTOR® of the Year! The Board received many outstanding nominations from REALTORS® who recognize the accomplishments of their peers! It is wonderful to see all the good work that is going on within our membership!

If you would like to complete your continuing education requirements for 2010, or you are interested in getting a head start for 2012, please consider the programs the Board is offering. Detailed information on the courses is provided below. I encourage members to take advantage of the new topics - and core requirements that the Board provides for educational programming. Please call the Board office at (401) 274-8383 to sign up!

I look forward to seeing you on September 22, 2010 at the Squantum Association where we will install our 2011 Slate of Officers and Directors, and distribute the funds from our 14th Annual Charity Golf Classic! In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer!

Sincerely,

 Libby

Government Affairs Update

State House
 REALTORS® TAKE NOTE!

On July 14, 2010, the Providence City Council's Finance Committee recommended the repeal of the non-owner occupied homestead exemption. This action, coupled with an increase in the overall tax rate presents an increase of 88% for some landlords.  On July 29, 2010, the Providence City Council voted 8-7 to approve the measure. Mayor Cicilline allowed the levy to pass without his signature.

The Providence Apartment Association has been founded by interested parties to continue to work toward a solution that is amenable to all stakeholders. They are conducting their first meeting on August 24, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at Nara Lounge at 248 Atwells Avenue, Providence. For more information, please contact the website at www.fixprov.com.

The next meeting of the GPBOR Government Affairs Committee will be at 9:30 a.m. on August 26, 2010.  Our special guest will be Richard Rodi, Independent for House District 2 in Providence. If you would like to join us, please contact the Board office at (401) 274-8383 to sign up.
