Dear Fellow REALTORS® and Affiliates,
I would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous 2010! I am very pleased to let you know that the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS® has been working on an agenda to keep you educated and informed throughout the year and beyond!
Educating our members is a priority at the Board. With re-certification in mind, we are offering core DBR approved courses such as Situational Agency, REALTOR® Code of Ethics and The Distressed Property: An Overview of The Foreclosure, REO and Short Sale Process. We will also be offering courses that will enhance your professional development and look forward to launching a series of brown bag lunch discussions on topics that will assist you in enhancing your business practice. Course selections are noted in our newsletter and will be included in outreach from the Board on a regular basis.
We are also working on keeping you informed of the latest trends, information and tools you can use to assist you in your business! Our newsletter and emails will be filled with links to resources on REALTOR.org and information contributed from our members and valued affiliates. We are committed to bringing you the most current and relevant information available to real estate professionals today.
Our REALTOR® Code of Ethics and Professional Standards serve to distinguish REALTORS® from real estate licensees, so please take a moment to view the informative video presented by NAR in our "Know the Code" segment. This important information is designed to enhance our members' professional practices and ensure compliance with our Code of Ethics. Please keep in mind that this year changes have been made to the Code to expand and clarify several Articles. Click here for a summary of 2010 changes.
Lastly, please take advantage of your REALTOR® membership with offerings from our REALTOR® Benefits program. This program, designed by the National Association of REALTORS® provides you access to many different benefits and cost savings - from health insurance to discounts on travel. Washington Advocacy Update |
NAR Comments on Proposed TILA Rule
On December 23, 2009, NAR President Vicki Cox Golder submitted comments to the Federal Reserve Board on its proposal to amend the regulations implementing the Truth in Lending Act (TILA). The proposed rule includes new and amended disclosure obligations for creditors, restrictions on loan originator compensation, and requirements to prevent adverse steering based on loan originator compensation, among other changes. TILA does not apply to transactions that are primarily for business, commercial, or agricultural purposes.
NAR supports the proposed rule's overall reform of the TILA Regulation disclosures, to focus the consumer on the most meaningful terms in simple tables that should prove much easier for consumers to understand. That, in turn, should help consumers find fair and affordable mortgages, resulting in a reduction in default rates and foreclosures and helping to stabilize communities. NAR also supports the Board's efforts to eliminate adverse steering of consumers to loan products that may not be in their best interests. NAR has been at the forefront of advocating for such mortgage reforms, consistent with its Responsible Lending Principles adopted in 2005 (attached to the letter).

| Technology Tip |
From Michael Pereira
GPBOR Technology Chair
Social networking and on-line profiles have invaded the real estate industry with a fury! Many of our members have established an on-line presence to take advantage of the opportunities to network and connect with the endless resources available in cyberspace.
This exposure comes with the requirement and responsibility to monitor your presence on-line. All too easily, a disgruntled comment can adversely affect the reputation you have worked so hard to achieve! Now, it is easy to track your on-line profiles with TrackUr. TrackUr can track your name, company or brand, and even your competition in any web content - blogs, forums and even Twitter!
This technology is available starting at the low price of $18 per month. Check our their website here for further information. | |
