Greater Providence
Board of REALTORS®
Volume 3
Issue 5
May 2009
President's Message,
Sussy DeLeon

Greetings!

On April 28, 2009 the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS®
held a Presidential Task Force to explore ways that we can assist you and your clients in this market.  The task force was facilitated by GPBOR Director Richard Epstein and was comprised of a range of REALTORS® from across the Board's jurisdiction. The task force determined that education for our members and the promotion and adherence to professional courtesies is critical at this time. I would like to thank everyone who participated on the panel. The time and dedication of our volunteers is much appreciated.   We will be posting the findings of the meeting on our website.

In April, we hosted our Semi-Annual Membership Breakfast Meeting at the Metacomet Country Club. Our sponsors and guest speakers, Tom Fleming of Bank of America and Ken Russo of LaPlante Sowa Goldman, provided valuable insight into some new and upcoming tools for REALTORS®.

I am pleased to announce that Michele Caprio, our Chief Executive Officer, recently achieved the REALTORS® Certified Executive(RCE) designation. This designation recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence in the field of association management. On behalf of the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS®, we congratulate her!

This month, we are pleased to co-host a seminar with Rhode Island Housing. We are billing this program "Show Me the Money"! We have asked Rhode Island Housing to share their Neighborhood Stabilization Program with us and we have invited local representatives from Providence, Warwick, Woonsocket and Newport to discuss local grants and additional funding available to qualified homebuyers. There are so many good opportunities available for homebuyers - we just need to get that message out! So please plan on joining us!

I look forward to seeing you there!

Respectfully submitted,

Sussy DeLeon
2009 President

On May 11-15, REALTOR®
members from Rhode Island will be traveling to Washington, DC. Each May, the National Association of REALTORS®
sponsors Mid-Year Governance Meetings in coordination with extensive efforts to connect REALTORS®
with their members of the US Congress. This year, members of the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS® will join their colleagues from across the state to bring our message to Congress. Speaking from our past experiences, our Congressmen and Senators are always impressed when 25-30 REALTORS® from Rhode Island crowd into their conference rooms to discuss our legislative agenda.

You can participate in the process too! These meetings are open to all interested REALTOR®
members. You can find more information about the program by clicking here.

Also, I would like to encourage you to participate in our Calls-To-Action. Periodically, you will receive an email from the National Association of REALTORS® urging you to "Take Action Now". Please open the email and respond to the prompts. Your one 'click' on the mouse sends emails to our congressional delegation. This is a powerful tool that the REALTOR® Association uses to provide feedback to Congress.  For more information on Government Affairs, you can visit www.realtor.org.
