| President's Message
Robert Sparn, CRS, GRI |
Greetings:
As your 2007 President, I have had the challenging opportunity to preside during a time of change.
As our REALTORS® face the unique climate of the marketplace, the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS® is committed, more than ever, to providing high quality programs and services to our members.
In February of 2007, your leadership team convened to focus on the creation of a Three-Year Strategic Plan. Under the guidance of Gar Anderson, the National Association of REALTORS® Vice President for Association Executives and Leadership Development, we crafted a vision for the future.
Our mission statement was carefully developed and reads as follows:
Our mission is to serve our members by developing and promoting programs and services that enhance their ability to conduct their individual businesses successfully, ethically and professionally. We shall encourage cooperation among members, promote a positive REALTOR® image within the community and be a proactive advocate for real property rights and homeownership.
Under each of the twelve goals of the Strategic Plan, we have outlined strategies to meet those goals - always keeping the member in mind. Please take the time to review our Strategic Plan and if you would like to offer any suggestions about how the Board can best serve your needs, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We are planning to offer new educational and networking opportunities, increase our technology and governmental affairs profiles, and communicate with you on a monthly basis, through this newsletter.
On September 12, 2007, I will conduct the 101st Annual Meeting of the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS®. The lunch program will begin at noon and will include the announcement of the 2007 Lear Award Recipient and recognition for our REALTOR® of the Year, Sussy DeLeon. We will also be voting on the 2008 Slate of Officers and Directors to be installed at our first State-wide Installation scheduled for October 26, 2007 at Quidnesset Country Club in North Kingstown. Mark your calendars - I look forward to seeing you there!
Best Regards,
Bob Sparn

Technology Tip
From Michael Pereira
Chair
GPBOR Technology Committee
We are all busy juggling our professional and personal responsibilities - I would like to share a tip with you that I hope will assist you in saving time while sharing your listing property information, for example, a Sellers' Disclosure or Lead Paint Disclosure, with other REALTORS®.
Did you know that you can upload files to attach important information to your MLS listings!
This feature, available on State-wide MLS, is easy to use and will make listing management and information sharing a snap!
If you have saved a completed file, such as a Sellers' Disclosure, on your hard drive in a document, text or PDF format, you can follow these steps to share your completed forms with other REALTOR® members:
1. Access Listing Maintenance from the Home Page of State-Wide MLS.
2. Input the listing number of the property you would like to share information about.
3. Select Attachments, on the dropdown menu, select ADD New Attachment.
4. Browse for your attachment and ADD the file to enhance your listing information.
This service provides MLS users easy access to pertinent information in a timely fashion!

Remember to be mindful of these helpful tips:
-
Meet all new clients at your office, verify their identity, and whenever possible, avoid being at the office alone.
-
When meeting a client, always let someone know where you are going and who you are meeting, including the client's name and phone number
-
Always have your client walk in front of you when viewing a property. Rather than lead the way, direct them from behind.
-
Keep a fully charged mobile phone at your side at all times; program emergency numbers into speed dial.
-
Try to plan your ATM visits during the day, and choose an ATM in a busy location.
