Stephen Adly Guirgis' The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is one of the most critically acclaimed, provocative, and exciting plays to emerge from this century's American contemporary theatre canon. When LAByrinth Theater Company premiered it off-Broadway in February 2005, the run was extended before it even had a chance to open. And with the progressive Pound of Flesh Theatre Company at the helm of this production, we know it's going to be a highlight of season! On April 29th, since 1982, International Dance Day has been celebrated around the world encouraging a wide appreciation and engagement with the wonderful world of dance. With so much talent to showcase, this year, for the first time, Canada has decided to extend Dance Day into Dance Week! From April 22 - 29 dance workshops, classes, performances, talks and many more events will take over Vancouver. As part of the celebrations, innovative choreographer Crazy Smooth brings his latest show IZM to The Cultch featuring 10 of Canada's most talented street dance performers. IZM takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster, submerging them in the dancer's expressions and affecting them with contagious joy. IZM is a true exploration of the street dance tradition and its many forms and is an investigation into the nature of artistic expression. The Cultch presents Carmen Aguirre: Something Fierce
In May, Carmen Aguirre's one woman show Blue Box brings an intimate close to our dynamic season of shows. Ahead of this we're excited to present an exclusive literary evening as Carmen reads from her critically acclaimed book SOMETHING FIERCE: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter. Winner of CBC's Canada Reads 2012: True Stories, Something Fierce is a first-hand account of a revolutionary life. The Globe and Mail writes: "[Carmen Aguirre's] story is the personal experience of a brave young woman evolving her understanding of herself and her place in the world, told with passion, personal insight, rich detail and humour... Something Fierce is raw, courageously honest and funny; an insightful journey into the formation of a revolutionary soul."

In The Gallery: Art by Barb Hinton Wood
The Cultch is proud to exhibit work by Barb Hinton, a veteran teacher and talented painter. Inspired by indigenous plant life and territory culture, Barb employs geometric design and hard edges in her painting to create connections between traditional knowledge, communities and the individual, to try and understand the information and the moment we each live in.
Barb Hinton Wood is a practicing artist, teacher, and community cultural programmer based out of Vancouver, BC. She has exhibited paintings, assemblages and installations in Southern California, Florida, Colorado, Saskatchewan and Vancouver.

The Youth Panel Presents Workshops in April!
In the months leading up to IGNITE! Youth Festival. The Cultch's Youth Panel will host a variety of workshops for young people ages 13-24! They're all free and totally awesome.
Some events include:
Dance Workshop with Paras Terezakis, Artistic Director and Choreographer for Kinesis Dance Somatheatro and mentor for the Dance Out Loud program. He will teach you how to use your whole body to articulate yourself and how to tell a story through movement and sound.
Our Theatre Games & Improv Workshop will teach you some new (or old) theatre games and give you tips on how to become an expert at improv. If you like theatre, acting, comedy or just hanging out with a bunch of cool people then this is the workshop to come to!
Also, join us for Gender Blender, an afternoon of discussion about all things related to sex, gender and orientation...and fruit smoothies! Bring a piece of fruit for smoothies as well as your thoughts, questions and experiences on topics including, but not limited to: sex, gender, sexuality, queer issues, dating, and relationships.

The Cultch's Summer Camp 2012 Looking for a creative, fun way to spend your summer? Look no further than The Cultch's Annual Summer Camp! Aimed at high-school aged youth, the camp offers a two week contemporary theatre intensive at The Cultch's state-of-the-art facilities with some of Vancouver's most acclaimed professional artists. In a comfortable and encouraging environment you'll receive training in Movement, Voice Work, Scene Study, Creative Composition, and Site Specific Theatre, which you'll apply to a classic text culminating in a performance at The Cultch's Historic Theatre on the final day of the camp!

Gala Italia! Friday, May 25, 2012 A benefit in support of The Cultch Youth Programs and the Arts Presentations Series. An evening dedicated to the memory of Jim Green. Gala Italia! is a celebration of all things Italian with a focus on Italian art, film, food, fashion, and wine! The Event Arriving at The Cultch at 6:30pm, Gala Italia! guests will be invited to linger and enjoy abundant bubbly and canapés right off the red carpet. A sumptuous light supper of regional Italian cuisine will be provided from Chef "Action" stations from some of Vancouver's top restaurants located throughout our theatre facility. Italian-themed auction items, silent Italian cinema, bocce (of course!) and games of chance compliment the evening with a selection of lively entertainment presented in our beautifully restored 200-seat Historic Theatre. The evening concludes with a buffet selection of Italian pastries, coffee and tea. 200 guests are expected. Special guests include the Consul General of Italy, Mr. Fabrizio Inserra and Mrs. Loriana Inserra.
This event will support The Cultch, an East Vancouver registered non-profit charity, our youth arts programs as well as the season-long (160+ performances) Cultch performing arts presentation series.

Each year The Cultch Gallery presents diverse and innovative works of visual arts and this is an exciting opportunity to have your work viewed and sold in a multi-purpose space. With the constant flow of audiences coming through our doors, The Cultch creates unique encounters with several artistic disciplines all under one roof.

Shout!WhiteDragon's Square Dance Broadcast
Shout!WhiteDragon, the band from the annual Cultch square dance, is teaming up with Co-op Radio for a fun little project. They'll be playing a square dance live on the radio so you and your friends can have a good ol' dance party in your own home! The broadcast will be on Sunday, April 15th at 2:30pm. All you need to do is tune in to 102.7 Co-op Radio and they'll do the rest. So dust off those spurs, turn on the radio and get dancing!
