FIRST ANNUAL Downtown Halloween Block Party!
Saturday October 30, 2010
A community event for young and old with something for everyone. The Downtown Bangor Partnership is partnering with Penobscot Theatre Company the and several others to host a Downtown Halloween Block Party Saturday October 30th. This is a day long celebration and will involve multiple partners to make it a day to remember and start a new downtown tradition.
Schedule
9:00 am-1:00 pm: Mitchell Institute Bangor Clean up day and BBQ (meet at Bangor Daily News)
9:30 am-5 pm: Halloween Fun at the Maine Discovery Museum (Special $2 admission all day! Trick or Treating in lobby area is free 3-5 PM)
10 am -2 pm: Fire Prevention Month Open House at Central Fire Station, Main Street. Prize drawings for Nintendo DSI and ride to school on a fire engine for a Bangor school child. Costume contest at 11 AM (two prizes: $25 gift certificate to Walmart). Sparky the Firedog, Snoopy and Andy the Armadillo will be on hand. Kid's games, smoke trailer and fire engine and ambulance tours along with several free give-aways, balloons, coloring books, etc. Adults can try out the seatbelt convincer, get their blood pressure checked or learn about home heating safety. Free Child ID Kits!
Noon-5 pm: Outdoor Market (Pickering Square- see box below for vendors)
12- 4 pm: Backyard BBQ at Sea Dog ($-pig roast, deep fried turkey, porter marinaded steak, chips and coleslaw)
1- 5 pm: Sweetest Thing * Weddings *Floral Design * Events Studio Grand Opening and Open House, 48 Columbia Street. Have you been wondering what Sweetest Thing is all about? Did you know their studio is open to the public? Come check out their Sea Bags, Black Dinah Chocolates, Rachael Anderson's cards and fresh flowers! Warm up with hot cider and Little Lad's Popcorn.
2 pm : Silent Film with piano accompaniment Jekyll & Hyde (Penobscot Theatre Co.)
4 pm: Mini parade (open to all in costume) with costume contest at Penobscot Theatre Company along Main Street and ending in Pickering Square.
3-5 pm: Trick or Treating at participating businesses (see box below for details)
3-5 pm: Sam & Yuri Perform (Pickering Square)
5 pm: East Coast Ghost Trackers Pilot Screening (Bangor Opera House)
5:30-7:30 pm: Main Street Music Studios Haunted Open House
6:30 pm: Enbalming and Edgar Allen Poe for Halloween at Thomas A. Hill House ($)
7:00 pm: Hollywood Halloween Dinner at Market Bistro ($-
Costumes and reservations encouraged)
8 pm: Paraween ~Belly Dancing at Charles Inn ($)
8 pm: Jekyll & Hyde at Penobscot Theatre ($-adults)
9 pm: Halloween Bash at Ipanema Bar & Grill with Smells Like the Nineties (21+)
9 pm: Halloween Party at Fiddlehead ($, 21+, to benefit Special Olympics)

9 pm: Bangor's Best Superhero Costume Contest at Luna (21+)
9 pm: Costume Contest with celebrity Judges, $500 prize and DJ at the Sea Dog (21+)

9 pm: Benjamin's Halloween Bash, Costume Contest with cash prizes and giveaways (21+)

Halloween Block Party Outdoor Market
Fall Outdoor Market will be held in conjunction with the Block Party Day. Your favorite summer vendors and some new vendors will set up in Pickering Square from noon-5 PM on Saturday (10/30/2010) to sell their goods to you at a special ONE DAY fall outdoor market. Sam and Yuri will peform in Pickering Square from 3-8 PM.
Rain location- under the Pickering Square Garage.

Growing up on Staten Island, filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio had often heard the legend of 'Cropsey', an escaped mental patient who lived in the old abandoned Mental Institution, who would come out late at night and snatch children off the streets. As adults the filmmakers return to Staten Island to create Cropsey, a feature documentary that delves into the mystery behind the missing children. Embarking on a mysterious journey into the underbelly of their forgotten borough, these filmmakers uncover a reality that is more terrifying than any urban legend. Not rated ˇ Runtime: 84 m. Haunted House Evening at Thomas A. Hill House Friday October 29th and Saturday October 30th at 6:30 pm. Presentation from Bangor Museum and Center for History and Brookings Smith Funeral Home on Victorian era funeral practices and early embalming techniques along with an exhibit of antique funeral items and embalming tools. A dramatic reading of Edgar Allen Poe's Premature Burial will close out the evening in our own haunted house! Tickets are $10 and seating is limited so reservations are required. Jekyll & Hyde at Penobscot Theatre: A new and shocking version of the classic tale of lust, love and horror. Dr. Jekyll's experiments with exotic powders and tinctures have brought forth his other self: Edward Hyde, a villain who is free to commit the sins Jekyll is too civilized to comprehend. This brilliant adaptation by the co-author of Penobscot Theatre's 2006 production of TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE features multiple Hydes played by various members of the cast.
