There Should Be Roses

A Comedy by Dave Williams


Cast:

LESTER BLUM - An 86-year-old resident of a retirement home.

ALBERT SMITH - Lester's 82-year-old best friend.
MEGAN - A young nurse, middle 20s.

KEVIN - Megan's colleague and fiance, 25-ish.

MRS. MAQCMURTLE - Administrator of the home: mid to late 50s.

FLOWER SELLER - A street vendor: any age or gender.

YOUNG MAN #1 - A street punk. Late teens to early 20s.

POLICE OFFICER - Male or Female; early to mid 30s.

MARY HANDLEMAN - 84 years young.

A small group is also needed to be double and triple cast in various roles.

 

There Should Be Roses is a very funny comedy with the cleverness that only Dave Williams can convey. We performed his Brothers! last year. It is the Perfect play for the Valentines Day Holiday full of romance for all ages. From the opening line to the surprise ending the playgoer will be caught up in the story.

 

Audition Dates and Times:  Sunday and Monday, January 9 & 10 at 7:00pm (Auditions for Nunsense and for There Should Be Roses will be done on the same evenings.)

Nunsense
This very funny show was a hit when we did it several years ago.

Cast:

SISTER MARY REGINA - the beloved Mother Superior of the Little Sisters of Hoboken

SISTER MARY HUBERT - Mistress of the Novices in charge of training new recruits.

SISTER MARY ROBERT ANN - Came from disadvantaged family in Brooklyn, very street wise.

SISTER MARY LEO - She entered the convent to dedicate her life to God through the dance and to fulfill her life's dream in becoming the first "nun ballerina".

SISTER MARY AMNESIA  - Truly a lost soul as she came to the convent in her habit without a clue as to her identity.

 

Audition Dates and Times:  Sunday and Monday, January 9 & 10 at 7:00pm (Auditions for Nunsense and for There Should Be Roses will be done on the same evenings.)

 Hansel & Gretel

This delightful story is done with a lot of audience participation and, at times, the use of puppets.

 

Cast:

HANSEL - Male child, preteen or young looking teen

GRETEL - Female child, preteen or young looking teen

MAMA / GYPSY WITCH - Female, Young Adult or older look teen

PAPA - Male, Young Adult or older looking teen


Audition Dates and Times:  Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00pm

Location: Sutter Street Theatre, 717 Sutter Street, Folsom 95630

Director: To be determined

Show Dates: February 19 - March 20 - Sat. & Sun. at 1:00pm (There is a possibility there may be a few morning performances for school groups.)

Two Shows Opening This Weekend

Call for reservations for our two new offerings at the Sutter Street Theatre

The Fantasticks

 

Talk about a time-proven audience-pleaser! "Try To Remember" a time when this romantic charmer wasn't enchanting audiences around the world. The FantasticksThe Fantasticks is the longest running musical in the world, and with good reason as the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.

With the book by Tom Jones, music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones the show is directed and choreographed by Connie Mockenhaupt with musical direction by Roshanne Baldridge and vocal coaching by Susan Mason.  The set is designed by award winning set designer, Mike Jimena.

The Fantasticks opens Friday, January 7 at 8:00pm with a reception following the opening performance.  It then continues on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 4:00pm through February 6.  Tickets are $15 - $23 and group rates are available.

The Emperor's New Clothes

The classic fairytale The Emperor's New Clothes will be delighting audiences of all ages at Sutter Street Theatre from Jan. 8 through February 6 on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00pm.  When this production appeared several years ago it received The Emperor's New Clothescritical acclaim and more Elly nominations than any production since.  It also received an Elly for Best Production.

Based on Hans Christian Anderson's fable, this adaptation by accomplished playwright, Richard Hellesen (A Christmas Carol, Sacramento Theatre Company), brings all the charm of the story with a cartoon like atmosphere.  Directed by Michael Coleman it is sure to be entertainment that the entire family will enjoy.

The Emperor's New Clothes opens Saturday, January 8 at 1:00pm and then continues on Saturdays & Sundays at 1:00pm through February 6.  Tickets are $13 - $17 and group rates and birthday party packages are available.
