"TREASURE ISLAND" SPECIAL HALLOWEEN WEEKEND DISCOUNT

Children who come in costume to Treasure Island this weekend get in for half the regular ticket price with an adult ticket purchase and all children receive Halloween Treats.

The classic adventure story by Robert Louis Stevenson, Treasure Island, is now playing at the Sutter Street Theatre through November 28. The story humorously adapted by Jerry Montoya (resident B Street Theatre) has been performed only once before by B Street Theatre's California Theatre for Children. Mike Jimena is the director for the Sutter Street Theatre show and was the scenic artist on the project at B Street. Mike and Jerry have worked together on projects at B Street since its inception as Fantasy Theatre.

Pirates, swords, muskets, flintlocks and cannons abound along with a heavy dose of adventure and laughs guaranteed to entertain all ages. The set, props and costumes are among some of the most intricate and visual ever to grace the Sutter Street Theatre Stage.

Treasure Island

The cast ages range from 9 - 72 and features several of your favorite Sutter Street Theatre performers along with some very talented newcomers making their debut on the Sutter Street stage.

Treasure Island runs Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00pm through November 28.  The tickets range from $13 - $17 (remember, half off for children in costume this weekend only) and we recommend calling for reservations at 916-353-1001.  Group rates and Birthday Parties are available.  Call for information.

"DIAL M FOR MURDER" AND "TREASUER ISLAND" OPEN

Thematic for the month of Halloween this mystery is one of the most popular in it's genre. Most people probably remember the Alfred Hitchcock version that was named "Ninth Best Mystery Films of All Time" by the American Film Institute.

Call for reservations at 916-353-1001.  Group rates are available.

Synopsis...
A mysterious  woman lives in the misty mountains, making beautiful quilts for the poor. Meanwhile, the greedy king is desperate to find happiness, assuming it will come from one of the many presents he has demanded from his subjects. When the old woman refuses to give the king a quilt, she starts him on a journey of self-discovery that takes them both on a whimsical adventure. At times mystical, hilarious, gently provocative and touching, this intimate musical has delighted parents and children alike. It is filled with beautiful music and colorful characters. This is a charming play for the holiday season.

Character types needed...

THE CHILD: Precast

THE OLD MAN: Should look in 50's or older however will consider younger adults depending on other casting.  The Old Man is warm and gentle and speaks as if everything in life is a magical gift.  There is no doubt that there is something special about him.

THE QUILTMAKER:  Female that appears to be in 60's but will consider much younger adult or older teen.  The Quiltmaker has an air of mystery about her.  She has a magical connection to the forces of nature.  The actor should be a very good singer.  The range is soprano.

THE KING:  The King is part of the chorus in the opening and closing numbers but plays the King throughout the rest of the play.  He is lonely and sad, greedy and self-centered.  He is in search of the one thing in the world that will make him happy.  Will consider older teens to 40's.

THE CHORUS MEMBERS: A Tenor, Alto (precast), Soprano and Bass/Baritone.  They play a very important part in the musical and do numerous roles.  All ages from teens to adults will be considered for these roles.  Various physical types, thin, tall, large, etc. can add to the effect of these characters.
