"SEUSSICAL" OPENS AUGUST 20
A fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty ("Ragtime", "Once On This Island") have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters. The show is directed and choreographed by Connie Mockenhaupt with musical direction by Susan Mason. The story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge - not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes "his kind and powerful heart". Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant; in a story that makes you laugh and cry. Not just for children, Seussical has delighted audiences of all ages.

"THE GOLDEN HARP" OPENS AUGUST 28
The Golden Harp written by Greg Alexander with music by Noah Agruss, is a clever and genuinely funny musical history lesson on Greek mythology. Tuneful songs with clever arrangements jump out in a variety of pop genres while introducing us to the comic side of Zeus, Haides, and Demeter. With humor and creativity "The Golden Harp" cleverly tells the story of how Persephone becomes Queen of the Underworld AND the Princess of Eternal Spring, while making the gods accessibly human. Directed by Elly Award winning director Allen Schmeltz with musical direction by Susan Mason and choreography by award winning director and choreographer Connie Mockenhaupt, this production originally debuted at the B Street Theatre and is making its second engagement at Sutter Street Theatre. The Golden Harp promises to delight all ages while teaching in the process (but don't tell the kids).

SUTTER STREET THEATRE GENERAL AUDITION COMING SEPT. 12 & 13
Mark your calendar for Sept. 12 & 13 for the Sutter Street Theatre General Auditions / 2011 Season plus for our December 2010 Holiday in the Hills musical. The listing of our 2011 Season should be out in the next week or two. While we may also do auditions prior to each show, it is advisable for you to attend the General Auditions since that way you will get a "foot in the door" for possible roles. We have cast some parts in shows from our prior General Auditions.
The auditions are by appointment only starting at 7:00pm and you can call (916) 353-1001 if you would like to reserve a space at this time. We expect a large turnout so reserve your space soon.
You should prepare a short song if you are auditioning for musicals and a monologue of not more than two minutes. If you are not singing you should prepare an audition piece. An accompanist will be provided so you may bring sheet music or a CD for your musical audition. No a cappella please!
More information will be forthcoming in a future newsletter.
