plot summary
Thematic for the month of Halloween, this mystery is one of the most popular in its genre: while modernized (and renamed) in the acclaimed A Perfect Murder starring Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow, most people probably remember the Alfred Hitchcock version that was named 9th best mystery film of all time by the American Film Institute. Dial "M" for Murder finds ex-tennis pro Tony Wendice with the intent murder his wife for her money, and because she had an affair the year before. He blackmails an old college associate to handle the job, but things go wrong. Thinking on his feet, he seeks a way to turn events to his advantage. It's the perfect show to get you in the mood for a month filled with villains, horror, and eerie politician masks!

plot summary
Written by master playwright Neil Simon (The Odd Couple, They're Playing Our Song, etc.), this story revolves around the escalating problems of a middle-aged couple living on 2nd Ave in NY's Upper East side. Mel Edison just lost his job after many years and now has to cope with being unemployed at middle age while also dealing with an intense summer heat wave, a prolonged garbage strike, noisy neighbors, loud sounds emanating from Manhattan streets up to their apartment and even a robbery of their apartment during broad daylight. Mel eventually suffers a nervous breakdown from the whole affair, and it is up to the loving care of his brother Harry, his sisters and Edna to bring Mel back to a firm reality. Neil Simon walks a tightrope between comedy and drama in this (at moments dark) comedy.
