Depression and Believers
Could be a Misdiagnosis
Few people realize that standards to diagnose mood disorders such as depression are defined in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual used by therapists to determine mental and emotional illnesses. Consider that the field of psychotherapy (cognitive, relational, and emotional healing) was founded by persons who were avowed atheist.
Therefore, the whole field does not officially consider the effect of spiritual agents on mental and emotional functioning. This does not eliminate the findings or diagnosis altogether. However, Believers with sound faith-life skills and Christ-based knowledge, are not limited by DSM findings in most cases.
