Former U.S. Olympic coach Richard Quick dies at 66
Richard Quick died on Wednesday, June 10th 2009, after a six-month battle with brain cancer. Quick was diagnosed with an inoperable tumour in December last year. Auburn University, where he was recently employed as head coach, released a statement. "We are tremendously saddened by the passing of Richard Quick, who is one of the finest individuals that I've ever known," Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs said in a statement.
Richard, who served as coach on the U.S. team at six Olympics, between 1984 and 2004, was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2000. He coached some of the most successful U.S. swimmers of the last 25 years including Jenny Thompson, Janet Evans, Rowdy Gaines, Summer Sanders, Dara Torres and Misty Hyman. |

2012 VIP London Business Reception
The 5th Annuual Business Reception kicked off this year's USA-AT&T Grand Prix Diving Competition on May 7th. Entitled London 2012, the event was co-hosted with the British American Chamber of Commerce, with many of their members attending the event for the first time. Business people from South Florida, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and Public Officials from Broward County networked and socialized while watching Olympic divers compete in the Men's Synchro Diving Finals. After the meet, all teams from 18 countries, including many divers from the 2008 Olympics in Bejing, China, were introduced to the attendees in a Parade of Countries and stayed to mingle with the crowd. It was a wonderful event that brought world-class athletes and the business community together for an unforgettable evening.

One of the features of the exhibition is a life-size image of Michael Phelps famous come from behind victory in the 100 meter butterfly at the Beijing Olympic Games. 2009 Paragon & ISHOF Awards
The annual Paragon and ISHOF Awards Night honored ten unsung heroes of the aquatic world. "These are the people who make the achievements of great swimmers, teachers and lifesavers possible, said ISHOF President/CEO Bruce Wigo. "They are the unsung heroes of aquatics and we are proud and honored to recognize them." This years Paragon Award recipients are:

Visitors to ISHOF
Among the recent visitors to the Hall of Fame were honor coach Dave Robertson and 1984 Olympic Gold medallist and honor swimmer Jesse Vasallo. Vasallo recently joined the staff of the Fort Lauderdale Aquatics swim team & will be a regular on deck at the Hall of Fame pool. |
New Exhibits Priceless Oil Paintings on Exhibit
A member recently loaned a collection of "replica" oil paintings with a swimming theme. The originals would cost millions and are housed in some of the world's most famous museums. But now you can see these works by Picasso, Cezanne, Gaughan, Seurat at the Swimming Hall of Fame museum. More.... |
Beauty on the Beach
