Ashtanga Yoga Month! May 18th to June 18th

May 18th marks a year since the death of Pattabi Jois, founder of the complex, profound, athletic and wildly popular Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga system.
In his honour, both the Westboro and Elgin Street Santosha Yoga studios will be highlighting the wonderful practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa for a month from that day.
We are beginning a new "INTRO TO ASHTANGA" course at our Westboro location (342 Richmond Street, 2nd floor) beginning Tuesday, May 18th, and hosting THE ASHTANGA CHALLENGE there and at our Elgin Street studio, 298 Elgin Street at Gilmour.
The challenge is to practice in the traditional mysore pattern of 6 days per week except for the new moon (may 14th) and full moon (may 27th.)*
Both studios will provide students with a card to fill in for the classes they take during Ashtanga Month.
As well as a small reward for each finisher, a name will be drawn for the Grand Prize of 3 months unlimited yoga at both locations and a blessed mala or Buddhist rosary.
*One day a week can be personal practice.
*One day of the month of the challenge can be a free day without fear of disqualification.

Ashtanga Mysore With Kate Little

It was in Mysore India that Sri.K. Pattabhi Jois dedicated his life to the practice and teaching of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system. The term "Mysore" is used to describe the method of practice where students go at their own pace under the guidance of the teacher. Students may start or finish anytime during the class. The instructor gives individual guidance to the students, and assistance in mastering specific asanas in the primary or second series. Students of all abilities are welcome to attend. A print out of the Ashtanga series is available to take into the class with you for reference. Work at your own pace and reap the benefits of a guided self-practice!

Danielle has excelled at athletics all of her life but fell in love with yoga in university after she found her physical and mental game improved at the same pace as her yoga practice deepened.
We are sure Danielle's classes will improve your day.
Wendy Chu Tran · Yoga Instructor ·
Wendy Chu-Tran was first introduced to yoga in 1996 shortly after the passing of her father. She quickly discovered the profound life changes and health benefits that yoga offers. Calmness, strength, balance, deep relaxation and an overall well-being are what Wendy experienced from her daily yoga practice. She passionately wanted to share her knowledge an experience with others. In 2003 her new yoga journey began as she enrolled in her first yoga teacher training with Maureen Rae. In 2005 she completed a 200 hour intensive Hatha Yoga Teacher training with Yogi Vishvketu. In 2007 she received her certification in "Yoga Education". That same year she trained for nine weeks in Hawaii with the guru of hot yoga, Bikram Choudhury, and certified as a Bikram yoga instructor. Being an enthusiastic yoga teacher, Wendy continues to attend workshops with world renown yoga masters. Furthermore, she has also been the coordinator of the "Yoga Temple Day" events since 2005. Wendy's love and passion for yoga shines through in all of her classes. Breathe, relax and let Wendy guide you through a series of postures and meditation. You will feel peaceful, strong and joyful.
Christine Anderson · Yoga Instructor · Thai Massage Practitioner
Christine's introduction to yoga in 1999 was more a demand from her heart and soul than her body or mind. Had she known what yoga would ask of her in the years to come, Christine isn't sure today that she would have been brave enough to travel that path... what she knows now is that through the grace of yoga she has unearthed the wondrous strength, courage, calm and vibrancy that had always existed within. Meeting this part of herself has inspired her to teach the discipline of yoga in hopes that you too may meet the beautiful being that resides inside of you!
Christine is also a certified thai massage practitioner. Her growth as a yoga instructor and massage therapist has been inspired and supported by so many great teachers... Her humble thanks to them all, for being strength, wisdom, compassion and truth even, (and especially) when she didn't ask: Ron Reid, Diane Bruni, Richard Freeman, Hart Lazer, Nitya Kandath, Kam Thye Chow, Mark Darby... to name but only a few.
If you are interested in booking christine for an appointment (and we highly recommend that you do.)
Stephanie Turple · Yoga Instructor ·
Stephanie's love affair with yoga began in the fall of 2004 when she attended a Hatha Yoga class given at her local community centre. Following this newfound passion, she went on to explore Bikram, Hot, Power, Ashtanga and Yin Yoga. Stephanie is a certified Hatha teacher with a particular interest in Yin and Power Yoga. Stephanie blends asanas with a pinch of philosophy, a touch of humour and a steady breath. Cultivating in her students an awareness of the body, Stephanie allows us to remain in the present moment. Work with her and establish a new inner stillness and a deeper sense of peace. To date, Stephanie has taken workshops with Mary Flinn and Richard Freeman.
