Door2Door Profile:
Frank Ferro
rider_profile_Frank_Ferro

Frank, a life long Win-chester res-ident and local historian, started out as a musician, playing guitar and piano in local clubs. He even led a five-piece band that played at Coconut Grove.

Frank served in the U.S. Army in WWII, stationed in the South Pacific.  While there, he says, he was captured by natives of a local tribe. He was brought to their chief, who sat him next to a woman in the tribe and performed a ceremony. To this day he isn't sure what happened.  "I don't know if I'm married to her!" he says.

More about Frank:  He's slept on active volcanoes; he used to ride horses bareback, with no reins; he once fell off a two story building. He was struck by lightening somewhere in the Fiji Islands.  No, these stories are not made up.

What does Frank think of Door2Door?  "I'm a lucky man."  He goes on, "Wonderful service.  Good drivers.  Very, very respectful."  SCM Driver Trudy Siraco, who takes Frank to the Community Family, is charmed by Frank's generous nature and love of animals.  She appreciates the snacks he brings her and the way he welcomes new riders onto her van.

At the end of our interview, I asked Frank if he'd ever met anyone famous.  He replied, "Did I tell you about the time I ran into Bigfoot?"

We shouldn't be surprised. Thanks Frank!

Question: What's so special about SCM?

Answer: Our drivers and our commitment to safety.

Door2... River!
With spring here and summer on its way, SCM is thrilled to be partnering with two nonprofit agencies to provide opportunities for our riders to enjoy the outdoors.  Coincidentally, both of these partners harness the beauty of the Charles River.  Join us... walking, riding and sailing!
Sail Away With Community Boating
Community_Boating01

Have you, like us, often seen the clusters of sailboats flitting about on the water between Kendall Square and the Esplanade and thought, "I sure would like to do that."  You won't believe how easy it is with the help of Community Boating, Inc.!  So easy, in fact, that we just have to get you there to try it out.

Community Boating is a 60-year old non-profit dedicated to the advancement of sailing for all, and they are beautifully located on the banks of the Charles near the Hatch Shell. Their Universal Access Program offers seniors and persons with disabilities sailboat excursions and/or sailing lessons for just $1.00.  Their facilities are completely updated and can handle all manner of mobility aids, including wheelchairs.  And they have specialized, accessible sailboats and trained, dedicated staff to assist in getting in and out of boats and provide instruction. How can we not go?

We'd like to invite SCM riders and their friends to attend a free open house at Community Boating on any of the following days, from 11am to 1pm: Monday, June 13, Friday, June 24, and Thurs, June 30.
Door2Door will provide transportation. Attendees will be treated to a sailboat ride and be given an overview of Community Boating and its programs.  A light lunch will be provided as well.  Space may be limited, so please call us and reserve your spot:  (617) 625-1191.
Walk with the Charles River Conservancy
Boston_Conservancy SCM is also a proud partner in the Charles River Conservancy's effort to bring seniors to the Charles River Parklands for guided, ADA accessible walks along its scenic banks.   Through the Charles River for Active Seniors Program, Door2Door will bring seniors to the conservancy, where the Active Parklands Coordinator will lead participants on an hour-long walking tour.  Transportation will be provided from four assisted living facilities, and this program is also open to all seniors aged 65 and older.
Guided walks take place on Wednesdays, 10:30-11:30am., from late April through mid-November.

Phil Kehoe:
Kinsey Award Winner
driver_Phil_Kehoe

Phil Kehoe has been driving at SCM for 16 years, and he recently stepped up to become a fleet lieutenant, trainer, and standing member of our Safety Com-mittee.  Over the past, challenging winter, Phil could be found hard at  work early every morning, starting vans up so they'd be warm and clearing off snow and ice. He also makes sure that our vehicle maintenance is top-notch and on time. Phil is always there to lend a hand, and his in-depth knowledge of the company, the fleet, and our customers is an invaluable asset. Congratulations Phil!

SCM drivers and staff select one Kinsey Award honoree each quarter. Named after a beloved former driver, Charlotte Kinsey, the award recognizes one individual who truly represents SCM's spirit of providing friendly, safe and reliable transportation services to our riders, helping them maintain healthy, mobile and connected lives.
