Launch of Riders' Advisory Committee
On February 4, SCM convened its first meeting of the new Riders' Advisory Committee. The goals of this committee are to support SCM and to improve its responsiveness to the needs and concerns of our riders. Representatives from Somerville, Cambridge, Medford and Everett expressed their great appreciation for SCM's service, and they also provided very valuable input as to how we can improve. As a result, SCM is looking into ways to improve its shopping service, upgrade its phone system... and the list goes on. The Board and staff at SCM extends a great thanks to the Committee, and we look forward to working together to help SCM thrive and grow!

Rider Profile: The Bonanno's

Well, they didn't exactly meet under the best of circumstances: It was wartime England, 1944. She was a young English girl watching truckloads of American soldiers converge on her hometown in preparation for the Allied invasion of Normandy. He was one of the Yank G.I.s. They were both nineteen years old. But is was love, so Kathleen didn't bother to wait for Bill to get down on bended knee. Two weeks after they met, she announced, "We're going to get married." Gulp! Then he went off to save the world.
When the smoke cleared- literally- William had not one, but two Purple Hearts. And the two of them were hitched.
This Everett couple has come a long way in their nearly 65 years of marriage, and SCM is proud to help continue the trip. "We were taking cabs," Kathleen said when asked how they got around before using SCM, "We just couldn't keep that up." Oh, sure they'd tried The RIDE, but the service didn't meet their standards. Then along came SCM's fabulous Door2Door offering. "All of your drivers are great, and we just love Betty (one of SCM's 2 fantastic reservationists)!" With SCM they've found the friendly and reliable service that they were looking for. "We don't know what we'd do without you."
Kathleen & William, SCM salutes you. |
We are delighted to award Trudy Siraco the Kinsey Award this quarter. Trudy has logged almost sixteen years behind the wheel at SCM. She is our most senior driver, and she is the picture of superlative service. We estimate that Trudy has personally transported 4,000 individuals, and she probably remembers them all by name.
In the past, we've tried to reward Trudy by moving her up SCM's corporate ladder. But working with the riders is what she just has to do. After a few days behind a desk, she longs to get back out where she can be with SCM passengers. She loves SCM, she says, but she loves the riders more.
Trudy is a huge believer in safety, and she will engage anyone in a long, technical conversation about the very best way to secure a wheelchair. She excels at her duties, and she shows genuine care for her passengers and her co-workers alike. Her experience with the job, her relationships with her clients, and her commitment to safety make her an easy pick for the SCM Kinsey Award this quarter.
Congratulations, Trudy!
