2nd Annual
Safety ROADeo
Road-eo 2008
On October 5, SCM brought a whole new meaning to the term "Sunday Drivers."  Staff, volunteers and board members turned out to participate in SCM's 2nd Annual Safety "Road" eo.  Not only did they have to navigate a difficult road course in an SCM van, but they also took a written safety test. The Roadeo is our annual opportunity to show off our safety skills and have some fun together.  This year's winner, 10-year SCM veteran driver Fred Whittington.  Congratulations, Fred!

The entire staff of SCM is honored by this recognition. It's great to be noticed for Giving the Community a Lift!

Rider Profile: Dick and Ernestine Smith
SCM riders Dick & Ernestine Smith of Medford are a happily married couple.  The kind of couple that you usually only see in the movies.  So what's their secret?
They met at Boston's Old South Church in 1955, wed on Oct. 5th,1957 (recently celebrating their 51st year of matrimonial bliss), and raised two sons.  Since then they've both kept very active.  "Without SCM... we're stuck!" they exclaimed.  Dick keeps a busy schedule
working at a chi
ldren's daycare, Election Day polling booths, as well as volunteering at various medical centers.  Ernestine regularly goes to the local senior center, shopping, does volunteer work, attends lectures and SCM functions, recently winning an all expenses paid trip for two torider profile - Dick & Ernestine Smiththe movies courtesy of SCM, and makes outstanding Rice Krispie Treats.
While Dick told me about his work at the polls, I had to ask who he is voted for in the presidential election.  He wouldn't say.  Interestingly, when I asked Ernestine the same question she wouldn't say either.  Hmmm...  I think they've just hit upon their winning combo in sustaining a long and beautiful relationship: Keeping mum on politics and plenty of Rice Krispie Treats!

SCM congratulates you, Dick & Ernestine Smith, on your 51 years of marriage... "and many more!"
Kinsey Award Winner: Phil Kehoe

driver - Phil Kehoe 03 SCM congratulates Phil Kehoe for winning this summer's Kinsey Award for excellence.  Phil has been a member of SCM's team since 1995.  He's an exceptional example of a great SCM employee, always going the extra mile for his passengers and his co-workers alike.  We are delighted to be able to recognize his devotion with this award.  Congratulations Phil, and thanks for all of your hard work.

A Letter About Phil and Betty

Dear Ms. Reed Cochran,

This is an unsolicited letter ...to commend one of your drivers... namely Phil Kehoe. His performance is outstanding.  Always on time, taking great pain in seeing that we are always assisted by him in getting on/off the van.  Buckling all of us up! He dignifies all by his sense of humor and his thoughtfulness, remembering us by name and brightening up our winter days.

In these impolite days, one dealing in services today should have a pat on the back, so to speak, for caring.  We elderly, although having limited means, feel agencies such as yours are a blessing from God.

I would also like to commend Betty who takes our requests for transportation.  Ex #1.  A real SWETHEART!!

 In appreciation, I remain,
 Elizabeth Petrucci
