At SCM, we had a big summer. In addition to all the activities you'll read about here, we fixed air conditioners, ate ice cream, and took groups of seniors to the beach.
Now, we've traded in our beach towels, and we're locating the snow shovels and ice scrapers. We love getting you out of the house, no matter what the weather. I wish you a very enjoyable autumn, and thanks for believing in community transportation.
Best,
Reed Cochran

SCM congratulates Scott Fleming on winning the quarterly Kinsey Award for superlative dedication to SCM's mission. Scott's first love is music, but beyond that, he's spent an entire career at SCM. Starting at the tender age of 21, he's held the positions of monitor, driver, trainer, dispatcher and scheduler. Today, he is our office manager, helping us run the business while still being available to drive when needed. A 16-year SCM veteran, Scott is one of fifteen employees who have worked here for more than a decade. That's half of our staff - amazing!

When I asked SCM rider John
O'Leary if there was anyone
in the world he would like to
meet, he thought about it...
"Josh Becket."
Uh-oh, I thought.
"...and Tim Wakefield."
Looks like we've got a Sox fan on our hands, folks.
John has been riding with SCM since 2004. For those of you who haven't been keeping track, that's the first year the Red Sox won the World Series. Some people used to say that would certainly be the end of the world.
2004 was also the year that John made the tough decision to stop driving due to his worsening eyesight. Fortunately for John, that was not the end of the world, either. Today, he can count on SCM to get him places: meal sites, outings, and the grocery store.

First Annual Safety Roadeo |
On August 19th, SCM hosted its first ever Safety "Road-eo." Twenty contestants showed off their skills on a cone-dotted course designed to simulate city driving. Tight turns, narrow streets, sudden stops, and small driveways were all part of the challenge. All this with an emphasis on keeping their passengers safe and comfortable throughout. There was also a written test.
Trudy Siraco, SCM's most senior driver, won the day, narrowly beating out Operations Supervisor Patty Burke-Hutchinson and Driver Dan Harvey. In a wonderful display of camaraderie and teamwork, each contestant also acted as a judge for their fellows. SCM plans to make the Roadeo an annual event to show appreciation for its drivers and emphasize the safest driving practices. |
