Okinawan Karate School hosts Forsyth Summer Camp this week. Call 478-994-0160 for pricing. Meet at 8am at the Okinawan Karate School at 20 East Johnston Street in Forsyth.
Tuesday, June 19th: Self Defense.
Tuesday will not only be FUN and EDUCATIONAL, but it might just be a "life saver." Students will not only work on self defense techniques for every day encounters such as BULLYING and STRANGER DANGER, they will also learn about every day safety.
Field Trip: Grand Theater in Macon. Bring $3 which includes movie, popcorn and drink!
Wednesday, June 20th: Ninja Skills.
Students will be learning today what it takes to be an elite Ninja! Balance, focus and extreme movements only begin to tell the story that will unfold in this exciting camp! Do YOU have what it takes to train like an actual Ninja?
Thursday, June 21st: American Gladiator.
OKS "contestants" will go up against other OKS "gladiators" in a series of contest what will challenge their physical strength and endurance. This day will bring new and exciting challenges while improving their martial arts skills. You WON'T want to miss this!
Friday, June 22nd: Samuari.
This is your chance to explore history through the ancient art of laido (sword). Students will learn and refine this truly special art using a practice wooden sword (bokken.) Learn basic cuts, strikes, defensive moves, as well as the cool modern moves! Field Trip: Outdoor Extreme Trip! You will get dirty. 4-Wheeler? Bring old clothes!

GA Initiative Community Housing brought to you by Dept. of Community Affairs
| Having vibrant neighborhoods with an adequate supply of safe, decent and affordable housing is essential to any community's economic vitality. Since 2004, the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH), a partnership of the Georgia Municipal Association, Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the University of Georgia Housing and Demographics Research Center, has been helping communities across Georgia address their housing and community development needs. Interested cities are encouraged to attend an informational webinar on July 12th and submit a letter of intent by July 31st. Applications are due by September 7, 2012. Five cities will be selected for participation, and these will be announced in November.

Community Planning Institute: Planning and Zoning D.C.A. Workshop

What? A two-day training program in planning concepts and procedures conducted by prominent planning and legal professionals. Course completion provides participants a "Certificate of Achievement" granted by the Georgia Planning Association (GPA) and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). Sessions include:
- The Role of the Planning Commissioner - The role of the Planning Commissioner in working with your community's citizens and governing body to define and implement the community's vision for the future.
- Your Comprehensive Plan - A look at what makes up your community's comprehensive plan.
- The Good, the Bad and the Legal - Covers the importance of the comprehensive plan as a legal basis for decision-making as well as the latest legal issues in planning and zoning.
- Implementation Tools - Discusses regulatory and non-regulatory tools available to local governments to implement the comprehensive plan.
- How to Use Your Plan Effectively - How to use your plan to make effective decisions, showcasing the Newton County experience.
- Cypress County - A hands-on exercise that allows participants to discuss and work through real-world type planning decisions.
