Governmental Affairs Update to the Community
To assist Monroe County business owners in remaining current on legislative issues the Governmental Affairs committee of the Chamber offer the following links.

Ga Chamber Legislative Agenda

BOE Voting Districts
Board of Education seeks public input on Voting District changes. The Monroe County School System is working through the process of adjusting its Board of Education Voting Districts to reflect the most recent U.S. Census numbers. As a part of that process, the Board will hold a Public Hearing at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. This hearing will be held in the Board Room of the Central Office of the Monroe County School System, 25 Brooklyn Avenue, Forsyth, GA.

The Board is also taking public comment through its public website located at www.monroe.k12.ga.us. Visitors to this site will find the proposed Voting District maps and a comment form in the left menu on the system and all the school websites.

AARP Safe Driving Course
You are invited to the AARP Safe Driving Course hosted and presented by the Forsyth Police Department. AARP Members  $12 - Others $14. This is a one day only course on January 27 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. in Aldermen Hall of the Welcome Center at 68 N. Lee Street, Forsyth. Lunch will be furnished by the Forsyth Police Department. Save Money on Auto Insurance by taking the course [Check with your agent]. Call Forsyth Police Department at (478)994 6022 to Register. Go to the event calendar and send yourself a reminder.

The Rose Theater Winter Concert Series
The Backlot Players will host a Winter Concert series during January and February. All concerts will be at 8 pm. Purchase tickets at the door - $15.00. The Rose Theater, 23 W. Johnston Street on the square Forsyth, Georgia. Call (478)994-0443 for more details or visit the website to see the list of bands at www.thebacklotplayers.org, the next concert is January 28 with Doc 'N Not Doc.

2011 Foodies are open for voting
The Foodie awards are once again open for voting and there are four Chamber members represented, Grits Café, Jonah's on Johnston, Molly's Café, and the Rose Theater. CUMC Bible Study

Christ United Methodist Church is starting a new Bible study titled "40 Days of Love: We were made for Relationships." This study will start February 2 at 7:00 PM and run until March 8 meeting every week on Thursday at the church. Some workbooks are available for a cost of $6.99 each so sign up soon to reserve yours. Executive Women's Luncheon with Georgia Heart Center

Join the Georgia Heart Center for a FREE heart healthy lunch and education seminar for women about the prevention, treatment and survivorship of Heart Disease on Friday, February 3, at Macon Marriott City Center in the Grand Salon.
