OUR NEW BLOG
Before I tell you the specifics of our new Blog let me explain some basics.
So what is a Blog anyway?
The simplest explanation I found was from Blogger (which is a Blog service):
"A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world. Your blog is whatever you want it to be. There are millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there are no real rules.
In simple terms, a blog is a web site, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what's new. Then they comment on it or link to it or email you. Or not."
Get it? It is basically an on-line forum where we can write our thoughts on an ongoing basis. I created our Mezzanotte Blog to write about our restaurant life. It is uncensored so I write as I really feel. And I hope this is of interest. You can even give us some advice (which I will greatly appreciate) on issues that we may feel a little lost.
So lets give it a try. You can find a link to our Blog at the bottom of the Mezzanotte website homepage at www.mezzanotte.tv or directly at the blog's website address: www.mezzanotte.tv/blog
As usual, all feedback is greatly appreciated! |
TEXAS SPIRITS AT MEZZANOTTE!
Yes!! this week we are introducing 3 very exciting new spirits made right here in Texas (or in Tex-Mex) and reminding you of a classic one that you perhaps have not tried yet:
TITOS VODKA - $6
Handcrafted in Austin, Texas
If you like Vodka you owe it to yourself to give Tito's a try. Handmade in Texas, it is the only vodka made in small batches in an old fashioned Pot Still. Exceptionally clean and really smooth. Incomparable excellence! And tremendous value!
ROXOR GIN - $8
Conceived in Houston - Distilled in Dripping Spring, Texas
This is a modern style gin that is light on juniper berries and well balanced with the addition of citrus peels and other botanicals such as coriander and orris root. Then there are other surprising elements such as sarsaparilla, Texas pecans, cinamon and cocoa nibs. If you dont particularly like regular British gin (like me) you will find this gin particularly delicious and different.
REPUBLIC ORGANIC TEQUILA ANEJO - $10
Conceived & MArketed in Austin, Texas - Distilled & Bottled in Arenal, Jalisco, Mexico
Perfect for sipping! 100% Blue Agave. There's a complexity of smell and taste that is really nice to explore. The Republic aņejo is a deep amber color. Aged 20 months in charred American oak barrels (from Jack Daniel's) gives off that subtle agave scent, with strong notes of caramel and butterscotch and a hint of orange, honey, and hazelnut. There's a pronounced oak flavor with hints of sweet vanilla and a soft, subtle fruitiness.
TREATY OAK PLATINUM RUM - $6
Handcrafted in Austin, Texas
A beverage designed to compete with other top rums and premium vodkas alike. While the overall flavor is smooth and subtle, hints of citrus, vanilla and nutmeg may be found on the finish. It is perfect in traditional rum cocktails, excellent in drinks usually reserved for vodkas and superb served on its own. So, sit back, relax and enjoy a glass of Treaty Oak Platinum |
OUR EVER EXPANDING WINE LIST WELCOMES 4 NEW WINES
This week we are very excited to substantially beef up our Pinot Noir category. Up to now we only had two Pinot Noirs you could choose from: Humberto Canale '09 from Patagonia, Argentina (by-the-glass) and the WH Smith Maritime '08 from Sonoma County (by-the-bottle).
So this week we are introducing 4 fantastic new Pinot Noirs (by-the-bottle):
Alta Maria Pinot Noir '08 - Santa Maria Valley, California - $48
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is quite a nobly structured Pinot Noir. It's tempting to describe it as thin, because it trades opulence for dryness and a certain spicy minerality. But that would seriously underestimate its considerable appeal, not to mention the subtle hints of wild cherries and raspberries. The more you sip, the more you like it. At this price, a terrific value."
Davis Family Pinot Noir "Horshoe Bend" '08 - Russian River, California - $54
90 points Wine Enthusiast - Here's a softly appealing Pinot to drink now with fancy food, like lamb chops or a grilled steak. It's dry, but so rich in caramelized oak and sweet raspberry fruit that it tastes almost sweet. Good acidity helps to balance out this lush, young wine. Aromas of dark stone fruits, including spiced prunes.
Evening Land "Blue Label" Pinot Noir '09 - Willamette Valley, Oregon - $42
89 points Wine Enthusiast - The wine offers delicious blackberry, black cherry, red plum and wild strawberry flavors that are kept tight and focused in a well balanced and nicely textured package. The finish is a little lighter than the rich mid palate but incorporates a nice creaminess. This is an elegant, subtle red with beautiful complexity!!!
Apolloni Pinot Noir "Laurine" '08 - Willamette Valley, Oregon - $38
It opens with a bright garnet color and aromas of Bing cherries, red plums and loamy soil. Brisk on the palate, its fine tannins and acidity lift the wine's red fruit kernel while an earthy terroir undercurrent and hints of potpourri and vanilla add delicious accents. Fine tannins emerge on the back-palate and propel it to its long, crunchy, red-fruited finish. A delicious wine. |
