MONTHLY WINE DINNER
This month we will be having a very special 5 course dinner featuring 5 fantastic South African wines. Yes my friends, wines from South Africa. Did you know that they have been making wine since the late 1600's? But it wasn't until recently that the investment is pouring in to produce high quality wines. And the world is trying them.
So this Tuesday come to Mezzanotte to taste some very unique wines from that part of the world. We will be having a Chenin Blanc, a Chardonnay, a Pinotage (blend unique to South Africa), a Shiraz (or Syrah) and a South African Bordeaux type blend (Cab, Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot).
And, of course, the food will be perfectly paired to the wines.
I hope to see you then! Please make reservations as we have limited capacity.
Cheers! |
SPECIALS OF THE WEEK
This week we are featuring 2 delicious items:
SALADS
We will be making our Mezzanotte and Cesar salads with beautifully fresh artisan lettuces. I am sorry I couldn't include pictures of them as they are arriving this afternoon just in time for the weekend special. I did try a few earlier in the week and they were absolutelly delicious.
ZUPPA DI PESCE
Do you like seafood? Then you will love this dish. This recipe from the Amalfi coast is interpreted in many different ways across Italy as they celebrate their local varieties of seafood. Our interpretation is mussles, clams, shrimp, sole fish and fresh San Marzano tomatoes steamed in white wine. The dish is slightly spicy but you can ask for extra spice or no spice at all.
Buon appetito! |
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEKEND
This weekend we are featuring three fantastic wines:
MERLOT GALANTE '07 - Bottle $54
Carmel Valley, California
Swirl a glass and take in aromas of black cherry, strawberries, and plums, accented by notes of vanilla, floral suggestions, leather, and herbaceous notes. The palate unfolds with flavors of cherry and plums moving into hints of earth, oak, leather, and floral notes. With its abundant tannins, this wine needs bottle age or plenty of air. Enjoy this atypical, robust Merlot with a juicy piece of beef.
CABERNET SAUVIGNON ELYSE '06 - Bottle $68
Napa Valley, California
Robert Parker 90 points: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Morisoli Vineyard, which comes from a hallowed vineyard in Rutherford, has a slightly more saturated ruby/purple color as well as a classic bouquet of crème de cassis, black cherries, dusty, loamy soil, herbs and spice. More structured and layered as well as fuller-bodied."
Tinta de Toro, Numanthia '07 - Bottle $79
Toro, Spain
100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) 94 points Wine Advocate and Stepehen Tanzer, 92 points Wine Spectator, 91 points Wine Enthusiast.
"Glass-staining purple. Exotic, pungent scents of cherry-cola, potpourri and white pepper, plus a sexy note of sandalwood. Very fresh in the mouth, with intense, floral-accented black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter and spicier with aeration." |
ENTERTAINMENT THIS WEEKEND
Come to Mezzanotte this weekend to enjoy our superb food, fantastic wines and fantastic entertainment.
On Friday we have Kevin Weishaar performing his great repertoire which includes music of Michael Buble. Kevin has rapidly become one of the favorites at Mezzanotte.
And on Saturday we have the virtuoso guitar of Jeremy Garcia. You have to really hear him out!

SO...YOU LIKE PORTS?
For some of us there is nothing like a good port at the end of a great dinner.
Well...this week we decided to come up with something that is very difficult to pass: a Flight of Aged Tawny Ports. But not just any port - we are talking of some fabulous ones:
Graham's 10 Years of Age: deep amber color, complex orange peel and marzipan aromas. Flavorful rich fruitcake spiciness with hints of walnuts, beautifully mellowed with an elegant, long finish.
Graham's 20 Years of Age: pale amber color, great complexity on the nose with hints of mandarin oranges, walnuts and roast almonds. Superb palate of rich, honeyed fruit and soft burnt toffee, smooth-textured with an enticing long, lingering finish.
Graham's 30 Years of Age: light, orange-tinted golden brown color, magnificent perfumed nose with great class showing an array of dried fruits. Outstanding, mature concentrated palate with full honeyed fruit, gorgeously mellowed. Simply delicious with an aftertaste that lasts and lasts.
Graham's 40 Years of Age: golden amber with a pale green tinge at the rim, which denotes great quality and class. Very complex on the nose with a powerful fragrance and opulence that belies its age. The palate is a gamut of flavors, ranging from delicate apricot fruit and raisins to creamy toffee and praline. The full, persistent aftertaste is sheer pleasure. A very rare wine available in restricted quantity.
The flight consists of 1.5 ounces of each of the four aged ports for $32. This is a rare pleasure and I hope you have the chance to enjoy it. |
DIVINO TUSCANY 2011
This fantastic event took place in Florence, Italy, between June 2 to the 5. Too bad we didn't have the opportunity to attend!! The top Tuscan wineries were in attendance displaying their fabulous wines at the historic "Palazzi" of Florence. The last day BBQ event was hosted by Sting at his Tuscan estate. The event was organized by James Suckling (former Senior Editor and European Bureau Chief of Wine Spectator) who now lives in Florence.
Here is James Sucklink's blog on the first 24 hours of the event:
