There is nothing like a great steak paired with a great wine. And this week we are going to do just that. Of course, if you are not in a steak mood you can always have a great pasta with red sauce or Osobucco or a rack of lamb - many choices to pair with these great wines. Now, we have very limited quantities of the wines so I hope you get a chance to try them. Here is the lineup:
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG Le Ragose 2004
Bottle $66 - Wine Advocate 92 Points
From the Veneto region, this wine is made of 65% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 5% Molinara and 5% local grapes. This is an extraordinarily powerful, intense wine of 14-16% alcohol with a concentrated black cherry jam fruit flavor, yet the wine is dry. Dense and super ripe, while still polished and harmonious, this Amarone finishes rich and dry with firm tannins.
Cabernet Sauvignon Elyse 2006, Napa Valley
Bottle $66 - Wine Advocate 90 Points
"The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Morisoli Vineyard, which comes from a hallowed vineyard in Rutherford, has a slightly more saturated ruby/purple color as well as a classic bouquet of crme de cassis, black cherries, dusty, loamy soil, herbs and spice. More structured and layered as well as fuller-bodied."
Merlot Galante 2007, Carmel Valley
Bottle $56 - 4 Stars BevX
Exceptional! Deep ruby red color with garnet edges. The nose is generously fruity with scents of blueberry, raspberry and plum with hints of brown spices, earth and oak. The palate is in full agreement with the nose; dry, dusty tannins, black pepper, and a trailing note of ripe cherry. An altogether stylish and charming Merlot.
Malbec Mendel Unus 2008, Mendoza, Argentina
Bottle $56 - Wine Advocate 92 Points
"The 2008 Unus is a blend of 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 16 months in new French oak. Medium purple in color, it displays a splendid bouquet of spice box, incense, lavender, earth notes, black currant, and blackberry with a hint of balsamic in the background. Full-bodied in the mouth with dense, layered flavors and a plush palate feel."
All of the above wines are part of our series of "World Class Wines at Ridiculous Prices".
