WE CONTINUE ON A (WINE) ROLL!!
This week we are visiting Spain through a fantastic wine I just tasted last week. The wine is a fabulous 2003 Dehesa La Granja made by Alejandro Fernandez of Bodegas y Viñedos Fernández Rivera in the Castilla y León region of Spain.
In 1998, Alejandro and his wife Esperanza acquired the historic "La Granja"estate: 1800 acres of south facing hillsides along the Guareña River with enormous hand-carved 18th century cellars.
2003 is the first vintage made entirely from estate vines, 100% Tempranillo from the Pesquera clones. Purity of fruit accompanies generous texture and weight, with excellent balance and expression enhanced by two years in bottle prior to release.
This fantastic 100% Tempranillo scored 90 points in the Wine Advocate. Here is what they said: "The 2003 Dehesa la Granja offers an attractive bouquet of smoke, mocha, coffee, and blackberry. This is followed by a structured, ripe, and concentrated wine with several years of aging potential. It reveals some of the compression of the hot vintage conditions but should provide pleasure between 2011 and 2023."
