Jan

As part of her long career, Jan was engaged by the Ed Gerlach as the lead singer for his very well known society orchestra. After five years of "big band" music, including the making of a CD, Jan left Houston for Singapore and Malaysia. Upon returning to Houston in the mid-1990's, she renewed her singing with local jazz musicians in the club scene and channeled her interest into standard ballads with a jazz touch.

VIDEO EPISODE 10 - FABRICATING FILET MIGNON
Have you seen those large pieces of tenderloin in the supermarkets (or Costco/Sams) and wondered how to clean and cut them?
In this week's video I show you the process of "fabricating" individual filet mignons ready to put on the grill. Plus I share a great Argentinean recipe of Chimichurri sauce used to marinate your filets:

WE ARE ON A (WINE) ROLL!!
For the past couple of weeks we have introduced really fine wines at ridiculous prices. First we featured the Ofelio Brunello di Montalcino and last week we featured the fabulous Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino.

Now that we are on a roll we are not about to stop! So this week we decided to feature the fantastic BARBARESCO DOCG 2006 by Produttori del Barbaresco.
This Barbaresco has been awarded 92 points by both, the Wine Advocate and Wine & Spirits and 90 points by the Wine Enthusiast. This highly rated, world-class wine, retails at close to $100/bottle. This weekend only we are pricing it at $53/bottle and $14/glass.

Here is what the Wine Advocate said: "The 2006 Barbaresco is a gorgeous, generous Barbaresco loaded with ripe dark fruit. This is an especially harmonious, refined Barbaresco from the Produttori that is also somewhat unusual for its dark, brooding personality. Licorice, leather and tar linger on the powerful finish. Today the wine is remarkable for its depth and concentration, while the aromatic complexity will develop in bottle. Simply put, this is a marvelous effort."

SO, WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT BARBARESCO?
Many wine aficionados, and particularly those that love Italian wines, have been introduced at one time or another to the fantastic Barolo. The Barolo has been around for a couple thousand years and has been known as "the wine of kings and the king of wines". But there is another wine that has a shorter history (only a couple of hundred years) and has been considered for a long time as Barolo's little brother. Well, not anymore - Barbaresco (the little brother) is all grown up now and commands the respect of wine connoisseurs all over the world. They both are made of 100% Nebbiolo grape (that is indigenous to the Piedmont region) so comparisons are frequent. Of course the terroirs are different as is the vinification process. But Barbarescos these days can command prices equal or higher than Barolos and display qualities that are in great demand.

I hope you have the chance to try this week's Barbaresco and continue enjoying our program of World Class Wines at Ridiculous Prices.
