ANOTHER CRAZY IDEA AT MEZZANOTTE!!
Last week we did something unthinkable: find a good Brunello di Montalcino wine that we could price aggressively so that some of you can have the chance to try a world-class wine at a ridiculously low price. So we featured the Ofelio Brunello di Montalcino '05. Considering that Brunellos go, on average, at between $100 - $200 a bottle (and the riservas are way more expensive than that) then our price was ridiculous.

This week we decided to go a step further. I have found the highly rated Caparzo Brunello di Momtalcino that I am pricing identically to last week's special making this a really ridiculously priced wine

                        GLASS - $15     BOTTLE - $56

Now, here is the catch to our offer (again): it is good only this week until we run out of it (I only have 1 case to share). After that we will go back to normal pricing.

CAPARZO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO DOCG 2005

92 Points Wine Spectator; 92 Points Robert Parker: "surprisingly dark in profile for this bottling. A sweet, Pinot-like bouquet leads to perfumed black cherries, spices, licorice and tobacco. This mid-weight, graceful Brunello offers gorgeous balance, with an expressive core of fruit that flows through to a long, refined close. The 2005 is one of best versions of this wine I have tasted in some time... this is a very elegant Brunello."

But, what's the big deal about Brunellos?

Brunello di Montalcino is a red Italian wine produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montalcino located about 70 miles southwest of Florence in the Tuscany wine region. Brunello, roughly translated as "nice dark one" in the local dialect, is the unofficial name of the clone of Sangiovese (also known as Sangiovese Grosso) grown in the Montalcino region. In 1980, the Brunello di Montalcino was awarded the first Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) designation and today is one of Italy's best-known and most expensive wines.

Brunello di Montalcino is certainly one of the premier expressions of Sangiovese in all of Italy. Unlike other regions, such as Chianti, Brunello must be produced from 100% Sangiovese. The vineyards of Brunello cover a large hillside and can be roughly divided into four regions, though things like age of vines and vinification techniques can easily mask the characteristics of each zone. Brunello is usually a medium full-bodied wine with both strong acidity and tannins that support leathery, subtly spicy tones of coffee and tobacco that add depth to the classic plum and dark cherry fruits.

Hope you have the chance to have a great Brunello this weekend.

Cheers!
