FEATURES OF THIS WEEK
We have some exciting new things this week. On the food side we have a great "Surf & Turf" in two versions. One is a 6 oz filet mignon with our panca sauce, accompanied with three jumbo grilled shrimps and a small Caprese salad (all in one plate and beautiful). And the other is basically the same except with a 6 oz steamed lobster tail instead of the shrimps.
On the wine side... well... we have quite a few new things. We are on a roll in building our wine list to make it the best in this neck of the woods.

WE ARE THE TOP "NEIGHBORHOOD GEM" RESTAURANT IN OPENTABLE.COM
We joined Open Table just this past November to accept online reservations. In this short period of time we have made it to the top of Open Table's "Neighborhood Gem" category as voted by Open Table users. Please keep sending your good comments to Open Table and other sites such as www.yelp.com, www.urbanspoon.com and www.citysearch.com.  We REALLY appreciate all your support.
OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS
Many of you ask us what restaurants we have visited recently and which ones we would recommend. As restaurateurs, cooks, and wine people, we have become very demanding and critical when we go to restaurants. So, unfortunately, we only find a few gems in our rare escapades around town. But I thought you would like to know which are those gems so I am starting a section for that purpose. Of course I will not write about our bad experiences - I will only write about the good ones!

This week I will highlight HUGO'S MEXICAN RESTAURANT. Hugo's is located in the heart of the Montrose area. Yes, it is quite a hike to get there (for us in Cypress) but is well worth it. Unfortunately we are always busy at Mezzanotte and is very difficult to break away and go visit for dinner but we have been there countless Sundays for brunch. Their brunch is just spectacular and AUTHENTIC Mexican. The building and the decor are beautiful, the service is really good and the food outstanding. What else can you ask for? The only thing that I would say is a bit on the negative side is the volume level of their live music on Sundays. Don't get me wrong - the music is great; it is just the volume that is too high for us (maybe we are seated in the wrong spot). But we have managed to resolve the problem by making reservations for 2:00 PM which is when the live music ends. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for authentic Mexican food. If you have the chance to try it for dinner let me know what you think.
