FREEZING WEATHER WEEKEND SPECIAL
Well, the weather has been pretty cold for the last couple of days and things will not improve over the weekend. But...we could live in Boston, or Minneapolis, or Oregon!! but, this is Houston and we are blessed. So a bit of cold weather once in a while is not that bad.
Some places are not only miserable outdoors but also indoors. Take a look at this picture (sent by our friend Alexandra) of the 8:00 am rush hour in the NYC subway system:
Don't you feel better that you live in Cypress, TX??
And to make you feel even better we are extending our $3 Bowl of Soup through the weekend. You can order a bowl of piping hot Minestroni or Lentil Soup.
Hope to see you later! |
VALENTINE'S UPDATE
We are only 10 days away from that magical day. And this year it falls on a Monday! Hmm...so what do we do? Well, for starters we thought to open on Sunday also for those of you that want to avoid the Monday crowd or can't avoid work on such an important day.
So we will open Sunday 2/13 and Monday 2/14 between 4:00 and 9:00 PM. We will have live entertainment on both days: on Sunday we will have the fabulous Jeremy Garcia and his classic guitar; and on Monday we will have the fantastic Karenna Lee singing her repertoire of romantic songs.
The menu will consist of a 4 course dinner and a glass of champagne on the house. The dishes are being tested right now and the final menu will be published on our web site shortly. But I can tell you that the menu will consist of 3 or 4 choices of appetizers, a very nice salad, 2 or 3 choices of main courses and a fantastic dessert. The price is $55 per person.
Please be advised that we are already 70% booked for Monday but only about 20% for Sunday. Please make your reservations as soon as you can to avoid a disappointment. |
CALIFORNIA FEVER HITS MEZZANOTTE!
As you all know we have been (ever since we opened Mezzanotte) very, very Italian centric when it comes to wines. Slowly but surely, however, we had been trying other interesting wines. And more recently we have been bold enough to introduce new (and great) wines from Argentina and from Spain. We even started playing around with some great value California wines (such as the Cab and Petit Sirah from Villa San Juliette or the fantastic Merlot by Cartlidge & Browne or the outstanding Syrah by Turnbull). But now we are ready to jump into the big time of big California juice. And big time it is. We got a hold of some great 2007 wines - as you know, the 2007 Vintage is being called one of Napa's finest with Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate rating the overall Vintage 96 points and Wine Spectator giving it a 94-97 point rating!
So here is our initial line up that we are introducing this week:
- Dariush Cabernet Sauvignon '07 - $110
- Deerfield DRX '01 Meritage - $120
- Opus One '07 (Bordeaux Blend) - $220
- Quintessa '07 (Bordeaux Blend) - $160
- Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon '05 - $110
I hope you get to enjoy one of these wines along with one of our great meats.
Cheers!

CALLING ALL FRENCH WINE LOVERS
We will also be venturing (fairly soon) into the world of French wine where I am looking at some great Bordeaux (left bank primarily, for now), Rhone, and Chateauneuf du Pape. If there are any wines, regions, appellations and/or chateaus that you love please let me know.

OUR TRAVEL ADVENTURE OF 2011
As many of you know this year we are going to Peru. Departure is tentatively set for Friday April 22. We still have space for one more couple so please let me know ASAP if you are interested.
Peru is today lauded as the gastronomic capital of Latin America and ranked along the top cuisines of the world. So our trip will be, of course, focused around food, wine and having a great time!
One of my favorite restaurants in Lima is La Rosa Nautica. Breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean from any table:
