NEW TASTING MENU AT MEZZANOTTE
This weekend we are continuing our new Tasting Menu at Mezzanotte.  It consists of five dishes served in succession so that you can have a chance to try different flavors. They all are served "tapa" size, which means they are small and you won't be overwhelmed with too much food!
Additionally we offer the option of pairing them with the perfect wine. The five course tasting menu is $35 and the wine pairing option is an additional $15.
The dishes in this week's Tasting Menu are:
  •  Mini Caprese salad
  • Gnocchi Quatro Formaggi (four cheese sauce)
  • Parmigiana di Melanzano (fried eggplant served over marinara sauce)
  • NY Strip alla Fiorentina (served with saffron risotto)
  • Tiramisu
Hope you try it this week!
IT CAN COME OUT OF NOWHERE...
Last Tuesday our son Diego and his nanny Carmen were leaving the house to go do some errands when a car lost control just in front of them, hit a light pole and flipped over! Now, our neighborhood (Tuscany) is very quite and there are usually children playing outdoors, people walking their dogs or simply people leaving their homes to go somewhere else. It is just very scary to think that if this car had lost control a couple of seconds before maybe it would have struck our car!! The lady driving the SUV was happily texting on her cell phone and driving at high speed when she realized she was going straight against a light pole!
You just never know when tragedy can be heading your way. Please enjoy every minute of life!

WINE FEATURES AT MEZZANOTTE
This weekend is your last chance to try the fabulous Carpineto Dogajolo Super Tuscan. There are no more bottles of this wine in the market (not at the distributor and not at the producer!) and I just snatched the last case. We will probably not see this wine until the next vintage is released.

At the higher end of the spectrum I have only a few bottles of a great 2005 Amarone Classico della Valpolicella made by Remo Farina at the bargain (yes, bargain) price of $83. This is a great opportunity to try a great wine!

CARPINETO DOGAJOLO IGT 07 - TUSCANY - Glass $9 / Bottle $36

This is a very impressive and innovative wine, a young "Super-Tuscan", whose characteristics are never found together in the same wine. Dogajolo combines the power and deep colors of a young wine, the elegance and balance given by wood aging, as well as a fruity and fragrant bouquet.

70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet. The two grape varieties are vinified separately, since they ripen at different times. Toward the end of fermentation they are blended and placed in small wooden casks where they slowly complete alcoholic and malolactic fermentation.

Deep garnet with violet reflections. Very fruity and intense, with hints of cherry, coffee, vanilla and spice.  Full on the mouth, soft on the palate, complex, well developed.

AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO DOCG 2005 - FARINA - BOTTLE $83

The various Valpolicella grapes (Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara) are harvested and dried prior to fermentation. The wine is fully fermented leaving no residual sugar and producing a big, wholly imposing, fruit-laden red with distinctly pleasant 'amarone' (bitter) after-taste. There are aromas of sweet berry fruit and herbs. On the palate, it is dense and rich with sweet cherry fruit, warming alcohol and velvety tannins.

Amarone is made exclusively from selected grapes grown on dedicated vineyards with the best micro-climate, sun exposure and soil type. The drying period causes a 40% loss of juice, resulting in grapes low in juice with incredible concentration and a wonderful expression of the grape varieties.
