TWO YEAR CELEBRATION - CAPRICCIO
It is very hard to believe that we are turning 2 years old this Friday!
And to celebrate we are having a birthday party: we will have Terry Parker singing his fantastic music (motown, oldies) from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. We will also have champagne (on the house) for those of you that come to celebrate with us. We will continue the celebration on Saturday just in case you couldn't make it on Friday.
Many, many thanks for all your support over the past 24 months!

IT ALL STARTED IN MARCH 2008
I always wanted to do Tapas and the opportunity prtesented itself in March of 2008. It took us a few months to renovate the space, design the menu, hire the people and finally open on June 11. Since then we have had lots of highs and lows. Among the highs: we made it to the top 10 Best New Restaurants of Houston for 2008 (by the Houston Chronicle). We had a glowing review in the Chronicle in January 09 and a fantastic review/feature in Houston Magazine later in July 09. Among the lows: the hurricane that did some damage not only to the building but to the business which slowed down to nothing during that time. The bad economy that didn't hit us but until late 09. We also suffered through the freezing weather of early 2010 when our main water pipe bursted (twice). But we never lost the enthusiasm or the focus and, of course, we are very thankful for all your support.
Here is a picture of how our dining room looked like when we took it over:

MINI WINE TASTING AT CAPRICCIO NEXT TUESDAY
We have had great success with our mini wine tastings at Capriccio. Five small tapas paired with five great wines at $17/person is a great deal. And, of course, you can order more of anything you liked. This is a very fun and educative event in a very relaxed environment (sometimes too relaxed!).
Hope to see you on Tuesday! |
IT IS SUMMER - PROSECCO TIME! Actually, it doesn't have to be summer to enjoy a nice Italian prosecco. But it is a good excuse, nevertheless.
I have located a fantastic Prosecco that comes in small bottles of 178 ml (or a little more than a glass). So now you don't have to buy an entire bottle but just have a glass as an aperitif before dinner (or with dessert after dinner).
If you are not familiar with Prosecco: it is basically a champagne made with Italian Prosecco grapes. It cannot be called champagne for two reasons:
- The main one: it is not made in the French region of Champagne so, legally, it cannot be called such.
- The second fermentation (where the bubbles develop) is done in large tanks and then bottled (this is called the "Charmat" method). Champagne, on the other hand, undergoes second fermentation in the bottle (and this is called the "Champanoise" method).
But, all in all, Prosecco is a fantastic competitor to Champagne (and it is preferred by Italians, of course).
So try a little Prosecco this weekend. We have it at both, Mezzanotte and Capriccio and it goes for $9 the bottle. |
