BACK FROM ARGENTINA - PART 2
Last week I talked about our first day after landing in Argentina. We actually spent the first 4 days in the capital city of Buenos Aires and had a fantastic time. Everything we did was tour the city, drink wine and eat beef (for the most part). Every 5 blocks we walked we had to take a "mandatory" break which normally consisted of local beer and/or wine and food of any kind. By the time the vacation ended I had a lot of trouble finding a pair of pants that would fit me!!
Here are some more pictures of those first few days. During the weekend it seems as if the entire city of Buenos Aires converts itself into open markets of all kinds: people selling handcrafts, people dancing, singing or playing music. It was just amazing:
One of the days out in the streets (i think it was Sunday) we decided to stop for some wine and food (normal routine) at a restaurant that had some performers dancing Tango and Malambo. Well, you may have seen Tango before but probably not Malambo. It is the dance of the Gauchos in the Argentinean Pampas. The Gauchos are the equivalent of the North American cowboys. They move cattle across the vast Argentinean plains. So here is their dance:
And, of course, there were interruptions. While watching our Tango and Malambo show (and sipping wine and eating some grilled provolone cheese, meats, etc.) a group of Brazilians interrupted with their loud music and contagious dance. Of course I was right behind them with a glass of wine in one hand and my faithful camera in the other:
Next week I will give you a summary of our visit to Argentina's wine capital: Mendoza. Stay tuned.

SURPRISE VISIT - WINE DINNER
We had another great wine dinner last Tuesday when our good friend Andrea Cragnotti stopped by to join us for dinner and talk about his wines. He and his father are the owners and winemakers of the Corte alla Flora winery in Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy. As I mentioned before, this was not his first visit as he was at Mezzanotte in May 2008 (almost exactly 2 years ago). And then we visited his vineyard in Montepulciano last September (and his father took tremendous good care of us). I will share pictures of this event on the next newsletter. |
MINI WINE TASTING AT MEZZANOTTE
Next week we have our second Mini-Wine Tasting & Food Pairing at Mezzanotte. Why "Mini"? Well, we tried the concept last month and it was a great success: smaller food portions, smaller wine pours and smaller price. This time it will be $27/person for the opportunity to try 5 great wines paired with 5 great samples of food. We are doing this again in cooperation with the Urban Vine wine shop two doors down from us. We will have enough extra wine in case you want to buy extra glasses or bottles of a wine that you particularly liked. Please make a reservation as we have limited spots for this event.
