Back from Argentina
Surprise visit!
While in Argentina...
BACK FROM ARGENTINA
Well... unfortunately we are back.  We had such a great time we really would have not minded staying a bit longer!
To start, we landed in Buenos Aires and spent the first 3 days there. Bs As is a large city (the capital of Argentina) and is very cosmopolitan. The feeling is very European; as a matter of fact, you feel like being in Paris, Rome or Madrid (while there are parts that remind me of Park Avenue in NYC).  There are many neighborhoods and lots of attractions. We visited the most interesting ones like the Boca neighborhood, Caminito, Recoleta, Belgrano, Palermo, Puerto Madero, and San Telmo. I would spend a lot of time trying to explain the beauty of it all so here is an album of photos of our first couple of days - a picture is worth a thousand words!  Wherever you see water is when we went to visit El Tigre which is a town outside BsAs and right on the river Parana delta. There we tried a huge parrillada and ingested a lot of malbec wine:

On our second night we went to what nobody should miss: a Tango show. Here are a couple of video clips taken with our faithful little camera:

At the tango show Len and I had some impromptu tango lessons with the dancers. A night to remember!

Next week I will give you a recap on the rest of the trip.
Cheers!
SURPRISE VISIT - NEXT TUESDAY 5/11
Our very good friend Andrea Cragnoti (owner and wine maker of the Corte ala Flora winery in Tuscany) just called me yesterday to let me know he was coming to Houston. On very short notice we put together a wine dinner event to have you try his fabulous wines that include a fantastic super-Tuscan and a superb Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (among others).  So the date is next Tuesday May 11, 2010 at 7 PM. Andrea is flying back home right after this. Please make reservations as we have limited space.

This is not his first visit as he was with us a couple of years ago (May 2008 to be exact). Then, last September we visited his winery in Montepulciano during our visit to the Tuscany region. While Andrea was not there because he was traveling, his father took very good care of us. We had an unforgettable day in the Corte a la Flora estate and then we went to dinner in the town of Montepulciano. In the pictures you will see the town up on a hill while the other pictures are of the visit to the winery.  Appreciate the pictures and come on Tuesday to try the wines:

WHILE IN ARGENTINA...

I met my childhood friend Marisa. She and I attended the same British elementary school in Lima, Peru from 1966 to 1968. In 1969 my parents transferred me to an all boys Scottish school in Lima (that's why my accent is so British if you have noticed - :-)

So for the next couple of years we wrote letters back and forth, relying on our parents dropping them off at the post office. And then I went to a military boarding school in 1971 (that's when my accent really changed!!) and we lost all contact.
It wasn't until 5 months ago when I decided to check her name in Facebook and I found her!! and it turned out that she lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina with her husband of 36 years (not 36 years old, 36 years of marriage!) She has 2 beautiful grandchildren, etc., etc.
So we finally met in person after 42 years!! it was an amazing encounter. We went out to dinner with Adriana and her husband and it felt as if we had never stopped seeing each other. The magic of modern technology!!
Here are two pictures of how we looked back then and how we look today:
