ARGENTINEAN WEEKEND AT CAPRICCIO
We had a great time in Argentina last month. During the time we were there all we did was eat (primarily meats) and drink wine (primarily Malbecs). And now that we are back I have not been able to not think about the grilled meats and sausages, charred vegetables, etc. So I decided to give it a try. This weekend I will be cooking a short list of Argentinean specials and I will be using a mix of our grill and our wood burning oven. So come down to Capriccio this Friday and/or Saturday to try Argentinean food served in a Spanish way (like Tapas: small portions).
Hope to see you!

I WILL TEXT MESSAGE YOU!
This is what I wrote last week in this newsletter:
======================================================= Yes, I will do that. I am planning a new program using instant text messaging to your phone so that I can tell you last minute happenings. What I will text message I will not publish anywhere else. For example, I may taste a fantastic wine in the morning and by the evening I receive a case. I would send a text message with a very special offer of (let's say) half price so that you can give me your opinion on the wine. Or I could decide that it is a great day for a great lunch and I would text you that our lunch special for the day is a prix - fixe menu of $10.
Or we could do something crazy/different like a beer/food pairing on a Wednesday night.
In a nutshell, the text messages would carry very special event information that I would not publish anywhere else.
Interested? If so please send me your cell phone number to my email address: gsarmiento@kknscorp.com so that I can add it to my database. AND... I promise that I will protect your number like I protect your email addresses (I don't give them to ANYONE!)
Hope you want to try this. And, of course, you can always opt out of the program.

The response was really fantastic and I already have a small database of cell phone numbers. Please send me yours so you can be added. I expect to start with this program within the next two weeks. |
WINE DINNER AT MEZZANOTTE NEXT TUESDAY
Yes, it is that time of the month again (second Tuesday) and I am planning a special tasting. On this occasion I am looking at some very special wines:
-
A nebbiolo (the indigenous grape of Piedmont, Italy, and the main grape in Barolos, Barbarescos, Gattinaras and Ghemmes). -
A Ripasso (from the Veneto, Italy, region. Can be described as a "baby Amarone") -
A Dolcetto (another indigenous grape from Piedmont. It literally means "sweet" but this grape is far from it - it actually has a touch of bitterness in the finish) -
A Super Tuscan (a superior wine from the Chianti, Italy, region. Not all Super Tuscans are "superior" but this one is) -
A Moscato D'Asti (from the Piedmont region, again. A lovely dessert wine)
All in all, I decided to pick top wines for our June wine dinner and, of course, they will be paired with great food.
Hope to see you then! |
NEW WINES AT MEZZANOTTE This week we are introducing two new wines: a white and a red.
But these are not ordinary wines. They are both from Tuscany and made by no other than Bibi Graetz (who was an artist and painter before deciding to be a wine maker). Here are two comments about his wines:
"I continue to be impressed with the beautiful wines of Bibi Graetz. These are highly singular, expressive wines that merit serious consideration." -- The Wine Advocate, Aug. 2009
"...one of Italy's finest growers...Bibi Graetz's wines always make me smile because they have an almost child-like joy about them." -- The Wine Advocate, June 2008
The white is the Toscana Bianco "Casamatta" made of Vermentino grapes. The red is the Toscana Rosso "Casamatta" made with Sangiovese grapes in the style of a great Super-Tuscan. They are both sold by the glass ($8) and by the bottle ($32). Come and try them out! |
