HOW ABOUT SUNDAY BRUNCH AT CAPRICCIO?
Last Sunday was another one of those days when my family really wanted to go somewhere nice to have a bite to eat. Adriana and I were interested in a place that would serve decent food and decent wines. After extensively doing on-line searches I just couldn't come up with anything in our neighborhood! So we settled for a 40 minute drive (one way) to Dolce Vita Pizzeria in the Montrose area. While I enjoyed my pizza and the bottle of Super Tuscan, I wasn't really looking forward to the 40 minute ride back!!
So here is the question: would you be interested in us opening on Sundays, say from 12:00 noon to 7:00 PM?

NEW MENU AT CAPRICCIO Our new menu at Capriccio is getting rave reviews. We continue revising it and I believe we have just reached its final version (at least for the season). Please go to our web site to check it out:
NEW PRIX-FIXE AT MEZZANOTTE
We have changed a couple of dishes in our prix-fixe menu at Mezzanotte. We have added a new Agnelotti filled with chicken and baby spinach; a NY Strip rubbed with tuscan spices and grilled; and a beautiful chocolate and strawberry moose. |
BACK FROM TUSCANY!
CHAPTER 10 - TENUTA FRIGGIALI, MONTALCINO SEPTEMBER 23
After our wonderful lunch at the Castello Romitorio winery we hit the road again to visit the Tenuta Friggiali estate.
Here we were received by the lovely Eva Barro who showed us the whole process at Friggiali. Here is one of the aging rooms where they keep their Brunellos and Rossos:
The winery is owned by Olga Peluso Centolani (or Donna Olga). Donna Olga is a passionate woman of wine and a wine grower who has for years been involved with the production of wine. The estate, a little nature's work of art, consists of 11 hectares, but only 4 of them are cultivated by Donna Olga with selected clones of Sangiovese Brunello and a density of more than 6.500 plants per hectare. Her love for the Tuscan countryside and nature with its cycle of seasons, its fruits, its mysteries, brings every year a production of 20.000 bottles of Brunello di Montalcino. Each one is an extraordinary combination of power and elegance, style and structure, harmony and longevity, and assures to anyone that tries them the unforgettable sensorial experience that only the Greatest Wines can give.
Here are pictures of the visit to her house wehere we tasted the wines:
The house is of medieval origins and beautifully restored:
Here is our table setup for the tasting:
And here is the gang taking a break:
At the end of the visit we went back "home" to relax before being picked up again by our driver Leonardo. He took us to the small medieval town of San Giovanni D'Asso. Here we had a very nice dinner of antipastos and tagliatelle with wild boar sauce. For deseert we had tiramisu. And, of course, plenty of wine.
This was a very long day and we were looking forward to go back home and have a good night sleep. Tomorrow will be another day and we are going to visit the Chianti Classico region.
Cheers!

FEATURED WINES OF THE WEEK
FEATURE WINES AT MEZZANOTTE
Our featured wines of the week at Mezzanotte are not new - but they are really good. In fact, they are probably the best values in our portfolio. Hope you have a chance to enjoy them.
Rosso Toscana IGT - Santa Martina
Bottle 36 / Glass 9
The Sangiovese in this wine comes from the Chianti Classico property while the Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are from the Vigne a Porrona estate in Maremma. This is a bold potent wine with plenty of dark cherry fruit and toasty oak along with hints of dark chocolate. It is hard to believe that this is a $36 wine! Absolutely outstanding.
Toscana Maremma IGT - Tommasi Rompicollo
Bottle 36 / Glass 9
This Supertuscan is 60% Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It opens very nicely with extremely fruity aromas and flavors of ripe cherries, pepper, oak and licorice. The perfumed palate is youthful yet shows some complexity with good depth of ripe fruit and length. Pairs very well with Italian pasta with red meat sauce, white meats, fresh cheeses.
FEATURED AT CAPRICCIO
This week we are introducing our new 2 top of the line wines. They both are absolutely outstanding. But not less outstanding is the great value delivered by our Tempranillo/Cab Castell del Remei.
Malbec - Salentein Primum - Mendoza, Argentina
Bottle 92
This is a limited edition wine released only in vintages when wines of exceptionally superior quality are produced. Grapes from selected plots grown at altitudes of between 3,444 to 5,576 feet above sea level. This powerful and elegant wine is far superior than any similarly priced wines. Rich aromas of ripe plums and blackberries, coupled with a touch of vanilla and tobacco. Sweet tannins - elegant, long finish.
Malbec/Merlot - Salentein Numina - Mendoza, Argentina
Bottle 68
70% Malbec, 30% Merlot. This is the first blend made by the winery. It reflects a perfect balance between complementary varieties carefully selected. This wine is a lively purplish-black color of great intensity. Its sweet aromas of plums and other ripe red fruit hint at the elegance and personality in the bottle. Eighteen months of aging in French oak barrels contributes to the development of tannins in this wine. Delicacy is the hallmark of this blend, with its sweet and rounded mouth-feel, good structure, balanced acidity and long finish.
Tempranillo/Cab - Castell dell Remei (Costers del Segre, Spain)
Bottle 38 60% tempranillo and 20% each of cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Opaque ruby. Ripe, brooding kirsch and blackcurrant aromas are further deepened by licorice and espresso. A real black hole on the palate, with slowly unfolding dark fruit liqueur flavors, chewy tannins and a long, sweet, compote-like finish. This is great with grilled or braised meats. Very serious for this price. |
