WE ARE TURNING 1 YEAR OLD AT CAPRICCIO!!
It is hard to believe that we are turning 1 year old. We have survived hurricane Ike, the financial downturn and several smaller (in comparison) events such as a direct hit by a thunderbolt on our roof blowing up one of our A/C units; a major chemical spill right behind us on a night that we were written up in the Chronicle; etc., etc.
On the other hand, we were honored by been chosen among the 10 Best New Restaurants in Houston in 2008 by the Houston Chronicle. We also received a very favorable review by the Chronicle in January, ended second place in Chanel 2's Best of Houston survey, etc.
All in all it has been a great year, full of work, challenges, and satisfaction. We look forward to many more.
We will celebrate next week - stay tuned. |
NEW TAPAS AT CAPRICCIO!
We are actively working in adding new tapas to our menu. We have been very succesful in crafting an exciting menu but I think it needs more excitement. Here are the first three that we are launching this week:
Morcilla Andaluza - 8 Perfectly grilled morcilla sausage accompanied with a pine nut, mango, apple and peach chutney. The perfect savory and sweet combination. Scallops Parmesan - 7 Absolutely delicious. Fresh scallops topped with parmesan cheese and butter are broiled to a delicate crust. A squeeze of lime tops this wonderful tapa. Mussles Chalaca - 7 Large New Zealand mussles are topped with a lime, onion, tomato and cilantro mix. Served chilled this is a perfect summer tapa. And, of course, our wine menu continues to evolve. |
AT CACERES Next week (on Wednesday June 24 between 6:30 and 8:30 PM) we will be "Inside the Loop" at Caceres. This is a new upscale housing development with a Spanish theme. Here is their web site:
Capriccio, Catalan and El Tiempo Cantina will be offering Tapas. Sounds like an exciting evening. Check out the details in their web site's Evening In the Park Event link. |
FEATURED WINES AT MEZZANOTTE
This week we are bringing two very exciting wines from Argentina. I trust that you will enjoy them:
Cabernet Sauvignon, Catena (Mendoza, Argentina)
Bottle $35, Glass $9 The Catena family has conducted extensive research into the soils and microclimates of Mendoza's high altitude wine country in the foothills of the Andes mountains. This purple-colored Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 14 months in 80% French oak, 30% new, and 20% new American oak. It exhibits an enticing perfume of wood smoke, cedar, tobacco, black currant, and blackberry. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with ample spicy black fruits, integrated tannins, complex flavors, and a lengthy finish. It is an outstanding Cabernet value. The Catena portfolio is stunning from entry-level to top-of-the-line.
Malbec, Punto Final (Mendoza, Argentina) Bottle $42, Quartino $14 "Is there a better, more consistent Malbec on the market today than Punto Final? This is rich and dense, with saturated berry aromas and a strong but balanced oak element. The palate is a potpourri of berries, chocolate and vanilla, while the mouthfeel is juicy and stacked. Quite delicious; this is the type of wine that gives Argentine Malbec its good name." Wine Enthusiast - 91 points This is a sophisticated wine that is seductive in every way. The color is gem-like with inky depth. The enduring finish of earthy, chewy, tannic flavors completes this excellent wine's seduction. Definitely recommend this mouthful of flavor! FEATURED WINES AT CAPRICCIO
We are keeping last week's featured wines as they were very well received:
Vallis Tolitum - Ribera del Duero (Spain)
Bottle $32, Glass $8
Excellent example of a great young from Ribera del Duero where the fruity character of Tempranillo is smoothed and caramelized with the light touch of Cabernet Sauvignon (80% tempranillo, 20% cab).
Red cherry color and purple tones, crystalline. Very powerful at nose, cherries, roses, light cinnamon touch, liquorice, caramel touches with fresh and mature red fruits. Smooth in mouth with a sweet entrance, very fruity (cherries, raspberries), with toffee touches, light tannins.
Tamiz Tinto, Bodega Reyes - Ribera del Duero (Spain)
Bottle $32, Glass $8
Fall was very foggy and there was no winter rain. Spring followed on with low temperatures and a continued shortage of rainfall while the summer was dry and hot. The scarcity of water yielded small grapes but of tremendous quality.
Made of 100% Tempranillo, it is bright and clean with a very concentrated youthful color. On the nose there are notes of licorice, raspberries and plums. This is a big wine with excellent tannic structure. Excellent and lengthy finish. | |
