NEW WINE LIST AT MEZZANOTTE
I am very excited with our new wine list at Mezzanotte. My commitment is to offer high quality wines at under $100 a bottle.
I have to say that this is not an easy exercise as I have to make sure that two (normally contradictory) objectives are achieved:
- That our guests enjoy superior wines at modest prices.
- That we still make money! If not, then we have another problem in our hands!
So far so good. I have tasted many wines and have been able to find very good ones. This week we have a temporary list because I still need to decide on a few more next week. But my objective is to have a final list by the writing of my next newsletter.
In the mean time please stop by and try some of the gems I have found.
Cheers!

TAPAS AND WINE AFTER BRAIN SURGERY?
You may not believe this but our dear friend Phil C. couldn't wait a minute longer after leaving the hospital from surgery and came to Capriccio on Tuesday evening to have some wine and tapas!!
Well... it was not really brain surgery but the bandages look like they did something big in his head. I did not want to ask details because I have a certain aversion to (human) blood and surgery topics.
Here is his picture enjoying a little vino before the anesthesia wore out:

Thank you very much Phil for liking our place this much!!

Pumpkin Ravioli - Appetizer $10 Delicate ravioli filled with pumpkin. Topped with a sage butter sauce and toasted walnuts. A must try as we only make it this time of the year.
Lombata di Vitello Valdostano - $29 Sumptuous veal chop stuffed with prosciutto, golden raisins and mozzarella cheese. Seared to perfection and topped with a porcini mushroom wine butter sauce.
Biscotti al Cioccolato - $7
Chocolate mousse with biscotti cake and raspberry coulis. |

Neprica -Tormaresca, Puglia IGT 2006 - Bottle $28.00, Glass $7 The Neprica is a unique blend of 40% negroamaro, 30% primitivo and 30% cabernet sauvignon. There's sweet prune and tobacco notes on the nose along with some undergrowth. Fairly easy, sweet black fruit on the palate, with good tannins on the finish. Very good length. Ruby red color, aromas of berries and light, spicy licorice. A class wine from Southern Italy, the frisky '06 Tormaresca Neprica is one of the prettier reds from Puglia
Caparzo Rosso Toscana IGT 2005 - Bottle $32, Glass $8 A very well-balanced blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet, Syrah, Merlot and Colorino varietals. The abundance of ripe red fruit on the nose (spiced cherry and red raspberry) can be credited to the less traditional additions of Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah, but the food-friendly balance between good acidity and gentle tannins seems to be the doing of those hard-working Tuscan varietals, Sangiovese and Colorino. It goes equally well with red pastas and meat dishes. | |
