Would you like your lake water tested?
ALMS is currently looking for volunteers to step forward to have their lake's water quality sampled this summer. We provide our Lakewatch technicians, sampling equipment, and sample analysis. Volunteers provide their time for monthly trips as well as a boat. We also provide a report on the data collected that you can use to evaluate your lake's health.
If you are interested please contact our new Lakewatch Coordinator Bradely Peter at 780-415-9765 or send him an email. If you would like to learn more about our Lakewatch program please click here. |

Profile on: Red Deer River Watershed Alliance
ALMS would like to recognize he great, momentum-building work of the Red Deer River Watershed Alliance. Specifically the work related to their Integrated Watershed Management Plan (IWMP) Community Workshops on Watershed Planning. A total of 130 participants attended a series of workshops in January to discuss issues in the Red Deer River Watershed. Another set of workshops are planned for April 26-28, 2011.
"Having recently lived in Red Deer/Gull Lake for nearly 5 years, I have witnessed a shift in people's attitudes towards water quality in lakes and rivers. I am very excited about the traction the RDRWA is finally receiving!" Juanna Thompson, ALMS Board Member
The RDRWA is hosting a general meeting in Hanna on April 7th. If you would like to participate in this meeting or in the upcoming IWMP community workshops, to talk about solutions in the watershed, please go to the website and follow the links: www.rdrwa.ca |

Moving from Words to Actions: Input Needed
In 2010, the Alberta Water Council established a Project Team be to "work with Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils and watershed stewardship groups to improve the information exchange and alignment of outcomes among partnerships." This Project Team drafted "Moving from Words to Actions." This draft report describes the current state of partnership communications, some of the challenges for improving communications and several recommendations to address these challenges.
There four questions the Project team would like you to answer:
- Has the Team accurately described the current state of communications between all of the Water for Life partnerships?
- Has the Team identified all the challenges with communications, given the current partnership system? Did we miss any key challenges?
- Have we made reasonable, implementable recommendations to address the challenges identified? Did we miss any recommendations?
- Do you believe your partnership or sector is willing and able to support or implement recommendations targeted to you, in the timeline suggested?
Click here to download the draft report. Please email your responses to these questions directly to info@landstewardship.org. Your responses will be collected until April 15.
