Lake Science Scholarship Recipient Justin Hanisch!

Trout species have been stocked outside of their native ranges throughout North America for over 100 years. In Alberta, trout are stocked to provide recreational opportunities for the province's anglers. Although numerous studies have documented serious negative effects of stocked trout on native organisms in mountain lakes, very little research has addressed effects of trout in lower elevation, boreal foothills lakes.

The ALMS Lake Science Scholarship provides $1000 Canadian funds for scientific studies on lakes, reservoirs, and their watersheds. The Scholarship is meant to support lake management by increasing our knowledge of lake ecosystems and the factors that affect them.

August Website of the Month is:

 livingbywater
The Living by Water Project focusses on shorelines along all types of waterbodies - rivers, streams, creeks, canals, lakes, ponds, wetlands, reservoirs, estuaries, and marine shorelands. We provide programs, services and materials to promote the value of keeping these shorelines healthy, and emphasize what we all can do to help care for them .
