Thanks A Million!
The 9th annual event was a great success, and a wonderful time was had by all. Attendees enjoyed the 88 indy films, plus the Q & A sessions with the filmmakers, 13 workshops, 3 pitch-panels, many private consultations, networking parties with delicious food and company at the St. Julien Hotel terrace with Latin jazz music, the Dushanbe Teahouse with trance music by Christopher of the Wolves*, the Bombay Bistro with contemporary rock music by Jayla*, and at The Med for the gala awards ceremony and reception with Celtic harp and keyboard music by Christine Tulis and Kem Stralka*, and a special reggae song "Save the World" by Tanzanian Mukama Morandi*, accompanied on harp, keyboard and drum, to appropriately close the 4-day festival. We had perfect, warm weather all four days and nights (except for one short afternoon rain). On Sunday, we had our traditional Native American blessing ceremony at sunset in Chautauqua Park, led by Greywolf, and a lovely double rainbow appeared in the sky immediately afterwards!

black star MOONDANCERS WRITE US

My English cannot afford me to fully express how much I am proud to find myself amongst the 2008 Moondance winners. I am so grateful for your kind consideration and the plenty of work you have done. I can only imagine how much time and effort it took to read and analyze the text, which is abundant in Russian names and specific details. Please, know, Atlantis is the dearest prize for me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, - Anastasia Pozhidaeva, Moscow, Russia, winner of the Moondance Atlantis Award for best foreign feature screenplay, "Strangers"

I wanted to write to tell you how honored I am to have won the Starfish prize for my television pilot "Harper Freedom." This script was many years in the making, was a true work from the heart. To have it chosen by the "American Cannes" after all that hard work has put me, well, over the moon. I am proud to be associated with a festival that promotes non-violence and women as artists/non-violence towards women. I also commend you for putting together what seems to be such a beautiful 4 days in Boulder. - Dani Vetere

I am absolutely thrilled to have won the Atlantis Award for my short screen play titled "Eeling" and want to thank you and the Festival for giving me this honour. I am sure it will be a fantastic Festival and I wish you every success. - Frances Edmond (New Zealand)

I can't express to you enough how much I appreciate you and the Moondance International Film Festival for taking time to review the music and for choosing my short film ("Out of the Shadow") score as a winner (of the Columbine Award). I worked really hard on the score, performing all the string parts on my violin, viola, and cello. I am very excited about the honor of being awarded and wish I could be there to take part. I have spoken to the director about the award and he is also very excited, as is the clarinet performer on the score (this was the first score she has ever performed on). THANK YOU! - Douglas Edward

First I want to say that I'm honored to be offered the Spirit of Moondance Award for my "Chagall in Montreal" feature screenplay, and I'd like to thank all of you who've had a hand in recognizing my work as worthy. As you know, writing is a solitary discipline, so an appreciative voice from outside one's head is always very welcome. I hope I get to do that personally when I'm at the festival. - Rita Pomade

I just wanted to say "thank you" to you and your volunteer staff. I really enjoyed Moondance and found Boulder beautiful. I walked up that mountain trail every morning before the fest. I got to meet so many talented, fun and interesting people. Hopefully, good contacts down the road. Heard a lot of things I already knew. Learned a lot that I didn't. Hopefully, I'll have another strong script next year that fits the Moondance theme. - Ron Podell (2008 Moondance award-winning short screenplay: "Silence of the Bees")

I would like to congratulate you on the success of the Moondance film festival. I had a wonderful time meeting with all my fellow filmmakers, viewing their films, networking and of course experiencing the beauty of Boulder. I would also like to thank you for the opportunity to perform at the awards ceremony. I think the crowd liked it and I hope you did too. - Mukama Morandi (2008 Moondance award-winning music "Save the World")

E-mail to Sally J. Walker, Moondance workshop presenter: I just wanted to send you a special Thank you for your time at Moondance. I so thoroughly enjoyed your class on Romance. You are a delightful teacher. I am a member of a group we call Reno Screenwriters, which is primarily a critique group of screenwriters. One of our writers is writing a great romance story, so the information that you shared will be passed on to her. As a writer I so appreciate people with the ability to teach, who share their gift of teaching with those of us so willing to learn more about our craft. - Pam Dulgar (Moondance 2008 award-winning feature screenwriter for "Orphan Train")

I just wanted to say thank-you for such an enlightening and fun time at the Moondance Film Festival. The atmosphere was so friendly and the workshops were of such high quality with amazing instructors. I made great contacts, met a whole bunch of really nice people and feel more than ever inspired to polish my latest script. Thank you for all the energy and love you poured into this festival. - Eva Colmers ("End of the Rope" Moondance short film)

First I want to tell you how inspired I was by my attendance at the Moondance Festival. I met beautiful, creative people with the kind of values that I respect and came home with a renewed energy to work. - Rita Pomade (Canada)

Thank you again for including OUT OF STEP in Moondance. I received an invite to submit to the Backyard Film Festival after they saw it at Moondance. - Eileen Connors

I SINCERELY enjoyed the festival! It was a special honor to sit on that pitch panel.  It validated my belief that book pitching and screenplay/film pitching are exactly the same.  "Hook 'em and Hold 'em."  I am particularly thrilled to have signed with (a WGA signatory agent at Moondance) for books and screenplays. I have all of that to thank you for.  - Sally J. Walker (Moondance 2008 workshop presenter & panelist)

Your warm, affectionate support for the work we are all doing is inspirational. AND what a great opportunity you provided us all for interacting and networking with the many accomplished and interesting people who attended the festival. - Fran Handman (Moondance 2008 musical theatre winner)
