QR or Quick Response codes are about to go viral. Don't worry if you don't know what they are. Our brief and unscientific poll tells us that most of us have not figured out what these ink blot like images are for. You can learn more on our post called Marketing with QR Codes.
QR codes are the super high tech version of bar codes. They are a piece of a rapidly evolving industry called recognition technology. The QWERTY keyboard that we all use dates back to 1875 and it is still the primary device to input data. At least our smart phones have voice, text, web search, contact and dial capability. The next step is here and it's visual recognition via a QR code. These easily scanned codes can take the viewer from print, directly to a web page or even dial a phone number.
Many savvy marketers are obtaining QR code images that link to their home page or a unique landing page. With the advent of smart phones prospective clients can scan the QR code and be immediately directed to product information, discount coupons, special offers and more. This is a key example of how recognition technology is reshaping conventional marketing.
Someday soon the keyboard will take its place in the museum and recognition technology as seen in films like the" Minority Report" and "Mission Impossible" will be the norm. Until that happens, QR codes are the smartest way to take your customer from a print image or a product right to your web site.
