October 2008 Clark Strategic Communications Newsletter
Greetings!
I want to make sure I stay in good touch with my friends and colleagues. The goal of this quarterly e-newsletter is to give you a quick update about the work I've been doing and some new developments. I would also love to hear back about what you've been up to.

Know of an organization or business that needs assistance with marketing, e-communications, or media/public speaking trainings? Please send them our way--and thanks!

Our Clients and Projects

We've been keeping busy with our terrific longstanding clients, and since the summer have had the pleasure of starting work with new partners including:

I also launched another venture, Aspen Development Strategies, with my longtime friend and colleague from the Robert Reich campaign, Joel Gagne. We'll be working together on community relations and development issues, especially in the energy sector.

Writing & Talks

This fall, I'm teaching a course at Tufts called Marketing for Social Change, which applies 'social marketing' principles to problems from childhood obesity to seatbelt use and conservation. In case you're interested in marketing strategy, I've started a blog-- please jump in and join the discussion!

The election is probably transfixing most of us these days. To that end, I spoke on a Tufts panel last week about the future of political advertising, and wrote an article for the Boston Business Journal about what businesses can learn from the world of campaigns.

Documentary: The Work of 1000

As you may know, I'm working on a documentary film about housewife Marion Stoddart's successful effort to clean up the Nashua River--once one of the 10 most polluted in the country. This summer, producer Susan Edwards and I continued our campus tour and spoke to a film class at Harvard about The Work of 1000.

I hope you'll be able to join us this coming Saturday, Oct. 18 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Lawrence Academy in Groton, where we'll be showing 20 minutes of The Work of 1000 project, including a newly-cut trailer and "leadership module" for educators. I'll also be moderating a panel discussion featuring Marion Stoddart, Fitchburg Mayor Lisa Wong, developer Bob Ansin, Nashua River Watershed Association Executive Director Elizabeth Ainsley Campbell, and researcher Pat Campbell, PhD. The event takes place in the Richardson-Mees Performing Arts Center.

Community
  Gideon
I'm excited to be a participant in this year's LeadBoston leadership development program, sponsored by the Boston Center for Community & Justice.

I've also recently joined the Fenway Community Health Board of Visitors, and the Board of Overseers for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where I adopted my cat Gideon. Happy fall!
