June 2008 Clark Strategic Communications Newsletter
Greetings!
I want to make sure I stay in good touch with my friends and colleagues. The goal of this quarterly e- newsletter is to give you a quick update about the work I've been doing and some new developments. I would also love to hear back about what you've been up to.

Our specialty is developing effective communication strategies that are informed by politics and policy. Know of an organization that wants to market itself more effectively? Please send them our way - and thanks!

  • Creating a comprehensive final report for the Civic Engagement Initiative, a six-year project to increase minority voter turnout in the Boston area
  • Creating an e-marketing strategy for the National Park Service Rivers & Trails program, and marketing plans for the Madison Park Development Corporation, an affordable housing and cultural organization in Roxbury, and SCM Community Transportation, an innovative provider of transportation services to seniors and people with disabilities

Writing & Talks

In the past few months, I've given a number of trainings on marketing and media relations for the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations, Emerge Massachusetts, and Democracy for America.

If you'd like to attend, I'll be presenting a Business Marketing and Public Relations seminar for the City of Somerville on Wednesday, July 9th from 8:00 a.m.-- 9:30 a.m. at the SCAT building in Union Square. The event is free and open to the public.

Finally, I've written a couple of articles that might be of interest: Marketing through E- Newsletters, and Winning Media Coverage for the Work You Do.

A New Face at Clark Strategic Communications

In May, we welcomed Layne Anderson as a summer Communications Associate. A graduate of Emerson College, she has managed successful city council and mayoral races in Massachusetts, and served as a staffer for Deval Patrick's winning 2006 gubernatorial bid, where her duties included field coordination, advance, event planning, and speechwriting. Anderson also serves as a consultant in the speechwriting and advance departments of Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
The Documentary

As some of you may know, I'm writing and directing a documentary film called The Work of 1000, about a Massachusetts housewife who led the cleanup of one of the nation's 10 most polluted rivers. In the past few months, I've given talks alongside our producer Susan Edwards and Marion Stoddart, the 80 year-old heroine of the story, to audiences at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, Holy Cross College, Fitchburg First Thursdays, and more. We're continuing to film and edit this summer.

We are extremely pleased to have obtained fiscal sponsorship from Documentary Educational Resources, a prestigious organization dedicated to producing and promoting documentary films internationally.
