November 2007 Clark Strategic Communications Newsletter
Greetings!
I want to make sure I stay in good touch with my friends and colleagues. The goal of this quarterly e- newsletter is to give you a quick update about the work I've been doing and some new developments. I would also love to hear back about what you've been up to.

Our firm works with non-profits, campaigns and select businesses to provide marketing, branding, and strategic communications assistance. Know of an organization that wants to market itself more effectively? Please send them our way - and thanks!

The Professional

Clark Strategic Communications has been fortunate to work with nearly three dozen great clients over the past 18 months. Just a sampling of our recent projects includes:

  • Creating an e-strategy campaign for the National Park Service's Rivers & Trails program, and e- newsletters for international social investment fund Root Capital

  • Developing communication & marketing plans for Yale University's Sustainable Transportation Program and famed author Frances Moore Lappe's new book

  • Serving as a strategic communications consultant for the Eos Foundation and Stand for Children
  • Conducting media outreach for ArtsVote New Hampshire (a project to raise awareness about the arts during the presidential campaign); MassVOTE; and the Boston Photography Center
  • Guiding the strategic planning process for child abuse prevention group Parents Helping Parents
  • Coordinating a website redesign for EcoLogic Development Fund, an environmental and anti-poverty group working in Central America
  • Serving as a media consultant for Boston City Councilor Sam Yoon, who was re-elected on Tuesday, and new Fitchburg Mayor Lisa Wong, who won with an incredible 75% of the vote.

  • I'm also co-teaching a course at Emerson College this fall with pollster David Paleologos (Presidential Campaign Communication), and helping to supervise students' internships on presidential campaigns.

    Upcoming Talks

I've been speaking to a variety of groups about media strategy over the past several months, from the Somerville Development Network to the Ashland Democratic Town Committee.

In case you'd like to come say hi in person, this Sunday I'll be teaching communications strategy at the Jane Goodall Institute's New England Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Summit in Lincoln. On November 29th, I'll be addressing the Be the Media Conference, sponsored by the Progressive Communicators Network. And on December 4th, I'll be in Hudson speaking to the Middlesex & Worcester Democratic Coalition.

I also recently wrote an article about tips for winning media coverage that appeared in the newsletter of Third Sector New England, a group that works to increase non-profits' capacity and effectiveness.

    The Scintillating Side Project

As some of you may know, I'm in the process of writing and directing a documentary film called The Work of 1000, which tells the inspiring story of Marion Stoddart, a housewife from Groton, Massachusetts. Marion - now nearly 80 years old - led the successful movement to clean up the Nashua River, once one of the nation's 10 most polluted.

My cinematic partners (producer Susan Edwards and cinematographer/editor Sherry Moore) and I had a kickoff party this past Sunday at Lawrence Academy in Groton, where we screened our six-minute trailer - the first step in creating a full-length documentary film. We were overwhelmed that more than 200 people attended.

I'll be hosting a Boston-area trailer release house party on Sunday, December 16 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and would love for you to attend. Please email me at dorie@dorieclark.com and I'll send you more information. Thanks!
