Liz Says

May! I am eagerly awaiting more Spring-like weather, but the cold and rain give me a great excuse to stay inside and read, instead of gardening!

My new favorite is
A Greyhound of a Girl by Roddy Doyle. It's one of those delightful and charming novels that work better when you just pick it up and read it, instead of my telling you about it. I will say that it is good for teens or adults, and has a 12-year girl as the protagonist. Mary's best friend has just move
d away, and her grandmother is dying... and that's all  I can say. VERY MUCH a change of pace from Roddy Doyle.
A Greyhound of a Girl

Since my email of April 11th announcing the sale of the store, I have received many inquiries, and many messages of concern that things will change. Let me reassure you that I have started an interview process with interested parties to INSURE that there is a seamless transition into new ownership. I also realized that this was too big a decision for me to make on my own, so I have a panel of advisors who are helping me with the process. Thanks for your love of The Owl - I want it to continue as much as you do!

Happy Reading,
Liz

For older kids & teens

The Emerald AtlasLiz recommends! Now in paperback:

The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens

[Yearling, $7.99]

Kate, Michael, and Emma have been in one orphanage after another for the last ten years, passed along like lost baggage. Yet these unwanted children are more remarkable than they could possibly imagine. Ripped from their parents as babies, they are being protected from a horrible evil of devastating power, an evil they know nothing about. Until now.
Before long, Kate, Michael, and Emma are on a journey to dangerous and secret corners of the world... a journey of allies and enemies, of magic and mayhem. And - if an ancient prophecy is correct - what they do can change history, and it is up to them to set things right. Liz says: "The closest thing to a Harry Potter book since Harry Potter."
