Connecticut's
Health Care Crisis
The
Problem:
Nearly
everyone agrees that our current health care system is broken. Each
year in Connecticut
we are
spending more on health care ($15-22 billion per year) and getting
less. The
ranks of the uninsured have grown to 400,000-and 80% of those
people live in a
household with someone who works! Even people with insurance are not
being
served by the system. Higher premiums, growing deductibles and
increasing
co-pays prohibit people from getting the care that they need, when they
need
it. Connecticut
businesses are suffering in an unfair health care system that is
increasingly
difficult to maintain. Doctors and hospitals in Connecticut
are being squeezed to care for
patients with no insurance, or insurance that does not cover the care
they
need.
