Greetings from Commongood Careers!

In this month's TalentWorks, you will find a link to our diversity and inclusiveness survey, learnings from Citizen Schools and how they use a balanced scorecard, as well as the latest from our blog!
Diversity and Inclusiveness in the Nonprofit Sector
Ethnic and racial diversity is a topic that receives a lot of attention in any conversation about human capital in the nonprofit sector. While hiring people from diverse backgrounds is a huge priority for many organizations, the nonprofit sector is not as successful as it could be in recruiting, hiring and retaining people of color.

How diverse is the nonprofit sector? Why is it difficult for organizations to recruit and retain people from diverse backgrounds? To explore the state of diversity in the nonprofit sector, Commongood Careers invites you to participate in a brief survey. Our goal is to gather data that helps innovative nonprofit organizations build diverse and inclusive organizations.

The results of the survey will be published in a report later this year. We hope to identify trends about diversity in the sector today, as well as best practices that organizations can adopt to recruit and retain talent from diverse backgrounds.

Thank you in advance for lending your voice to this important issue.

Take the survey now.
Taking a Strategic Approach to Performance Management
citizens schoolsEffective performance management is key to staff development and retention. For Citizen Schools, taking a strategic and quantitative approach to performance management has helped to keep staff on track with organization-wide goals.

Guiding the overall work of Citizen Schools is a Balanced Scorecard (BSC), a results-based management system that looks at an organization's success across a number of measures, such as fundraising and programmatic goals.
Tools You Can Use: Balanced Score Card
As described in the previous section, a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) can be a valuable management tool. When designed and implemented strategically, a BSC can be used to align organization-wide goals with overall vision and strategy, improve internal and external communications, and monitor performance against strategic goals.

Below you can download a sample BSC. Created by our friends at Citizen Schools, this particular scorecard reflects the particular goals of one organization. Use this example as a guide to create a tool to measure impact or enhance existing performance management systems for your own organization.
