Diversity and Inclusiveness in the Nonprofit Sector
|
Ethnic and racial diversity is a topic that receives a lot
of attention in any conversation about human capital in the nonprofit sector. While hiring people from diverse
backgrounds is a huge priority for many organizations, the nonprofit sector is
not as successful as it could be in recruiting, hiring and retaining people of
color.
How diverse is the nonprofit sector? Why is it difficult for
organizations to recruit and retain people from diverse backgrounds? To explore
the state of diversity in the nonprofit sector, Commongood Careers invites you
to participate in a brief survey. Our goal is to gather data that helps
innovative nonprofit organizations to build diverse and inclusive
organizations.
The results of the survey will be published in a report later
this year. We hope to identify trends about diversity in the sector today, as
well as best practices that organizations can adopt to recruit and retain
talent from diverse backgrounds.
Thank you in advance for lending your voice to
this important issue. Take the survey now.

What's Happening in Nonprofit Hiring
|
Visit the Commongood Careers blog to read the latest news and ideas related to
nonprofit talent, hiring trends, and more:
Matching human capital with financial capital will make SIF millions go farther Established by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, the Social Innovation Fund will support
some of the nation's most innovative and groundbreaking foundations and
nonprofits. As Commongood Careers and Talent Initiative are dedicated
to supporting the growth and development of such organizations, we have
watched with eager anticipation over the past year as this historic
legislation was brought to life by the team administering the funds at
the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Health care organizations are hiring! Earlier this year at our Conversations with Social
Entrepreneurs events, we heard a lot about how health-related nonprofits are emerging as a new focus in social innovation.
Check out our blog to read about some of the exciting and entrepreneurial health care
organizations that are hiring!
Dear Jobseeker: Personality Matters By the time you get to the final round of interviews, it is highly
likely that you have the qualifications and experience to be able to do
the job - and the other candidates being considered have those things,
too. That means you may have to step it up a notch. One way to
gain an edge over the competition is to simply have more of what
they're looking for, but here's another: your personality. You can do all the right things in the interview, but without demonstrating your personality fit, the interviewer is still going to have doubts about you.

Getting at the Root
Causes of Turnover
|
We all know that bright, committed and creative people join
and work in the social sector because they are mission-driven. Despite this
devotion to mission, studies have shown that nonprofit organizations experience
significant employee turnover.
Why does this happen? One belief is that people in
nonprofits do not feel that their talent is being adequately developed and
therefore their ability to advance is compromised. Another driver is the
difficulty of many employees to effectively participate in the decision-making
processes of their organizations.
In order to evaluate these theories we need your help.
Commongood Careers and Empowering Work Practices invite you to participate in a
brief survey. All survey respondents will be eligible to participate in a
drawing for a free two-hour consultation with Empowering Work Practices, and
the first 250 people who answer the survey will be eligible to participate in a
drawing for a $50 iTunes gift card.
Take the survey now.
