Conversations with Social Entrepreneurs
The societal, economic, and political landscape looks very
different in 2010 from that which existed just a few years ago. Faced with a
range of new realities, social entrepreneurs feel that they are approaching an
"inflection point," or a moment of dramatic change for their organizations and
movement. Despite diminished resources, social entrepreneurs are now working to
grow in entirely new ways and at faster rates than ever before.
To explore how social entrepreneurs are navigating through
this dynamic period, Commongood Careers and the Building Movement Project
convened "Conversations with Social Entrepreneurs." This effort
included an electronic survey study and a series of regional gatherings in four
cities with a group of 200 leaders from innovative nonprofits. The conversations
revealed three prominent themes, as discussed in the full report.

 Introducing the Talent Initiative!
James Weinberg, Founder & CEO of Commongood Careers is currently launching a new
nonprofit called Talent Initiative that is dedicated to enhancing the
social sector's perception and practice of human capital management.
In pursuit of this mission, Talent Initiative works on
thought-leadership strategies across the sector and provides
capacity-building services to innovative nonprofits in order to help
them become more efficient, effective, scalable and sustainable. Talent Initiative was created to help nonprofits develop their
capacity for human capital management so that they will ultimately be
better positioned to seize opportunities for increasing program scale,
results and impact.
Talent Initiative is currently conducting a competitive RFP process to
identify six outstanding organizations to participate as Fellows in its
inaugural cohort. There is a Friday, April 2nd deadline to submit Letter of Interest Forms.

Share Your Voice on Volunteer Management
Reimagining Service, a self-organized coalition of more than fifty corporate,
nonprofit and government leaders working to increase the impact of volunteers
and their ability to address our country's most pressing social issues, would like your input.
As part of their work to
increase the impact of volunteering, they are examining the current practices in
both the nonprofit and corporate sectors. This research will help inform the
design of potential solutions to improve volunteer management.
For their research, they are asking organizations of all sizes from all over the country who work with volunteers, to
participate by taking
15 minutes to complete the survey linked below. The survey is designed to collect information about volunteer management tools and resources that nonprofits use so that the coalition can identify best practices and shared challenges in this area. The findings from this research will be presented at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service in June 2010
during the Reimagining Service Forum.
Please complete the survey by Friday, April 2, 2010 at: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22AEAXPJHRS
