Grants Manager:
Peace Games

peace games

Founded on the belief that young people have the power and responsibility to change the world, Peace Games builds effective school climates by focusing on two major efforts within a school: teaching children the skills of cooperation, communication, conflict resolution, and civic engagement; and providing educators with the critical skills and knowledge to integrate social-emotional learning into the school's curriculum and culture.

Peace Games is currently seeking a Grants Manager to take the lead responsibility for the identification, cultivation, and management of all new and existing grant relationships that support the work of this entrepreneurial organization.  S/he will research and write clear and compelling proposals for public, corporate and private foundation funding, promoting critical aspects of the Peace Games mission and program to local, state, and national donors.

Social innovation occurs across all sectors of our economy, from start-up nonprofits to the federal government. This month's newsletter celebrates the work of some outstanding talent who are working for social change in new and exciting ways.

To start, long-time social entrepreneur Alan Khazei has entered the senate race in Massachusetts. Inspired by his campaign's message that this election is fueled by a citizen movement, we've written a blog about how volunteering on a political campaign is a great way to show your support and boost your career.

We also feature an article on urban education champion Earl Phalen. He spoke with us about his new role as CEO of Reach Out and Read, and the organization's current impact, growth plans, and hiring needs.

Finally, we are happy to share a blog post written by our CEO James Weinberg about his support for Patrick Corvington as the next leader of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Also in this month's newsletter, you'll find the latest job postings at nonprofits across the country, as well as a selection of career-related events.

Sincerely,
The Team at Commongood Careers

Impacting Early Literacy, One Book at a Time

What will it take to impact the school readiness of millions of urban children? According to Earl Martin Phalen, it starts with a trusted professional handing them a book.

Earl should know. He's been a champion for urban education since 1992. He recently became the Chief Executive Officer of Reach Out and Read, a national early literacy program. Previously, he was the CEO of Building Educated Leaders for Life (BELL), an out-of-school time education program, as well as the Founder and Chair of Summer Advantage USA, which combats summer learning loss.

A longtime friend and client of Commongood Careers, Earl caught us up on Reach Out and Read's current impact and aggressive growth plans, including the inside scoop on the organization's hiring needs in the near future.
