NONPROFIT SPOTLIGHT
National Student Partnerships

nsp

National Student Partnerships envisions a day when all people in our country will have the opportunity to achieve economic independence and pursue their life goals. Their mission is to alleviate poverty in our communities by engaging our nation's college students in this effort. NSP recruits and trains a diverse corps of undergraduates who make a rigorous and sustained commitment to service while in school. Their student advocates work side-by-side with low-income community members, first helping them address immediate needs (e.g., employment, housing, health care, public benefits, and/or education), then providing comprehensive, long-term support designed to help families break the cycle of poverty. Simultaneously, their student leaders gain the direct exposure, insight, and compassion necessary to be lifelong advocates for systemic change on poverty policy, regardless of the professional path they ultimately pursue. National Student Partnerships is currently hiring for a Regional Executive Director.
JOB SPOTLIGHT
VISTA Development Associate
 6/19/09 APPLICATION DEADLINE!

year up

Year Up is a non-profit organization with a mission to prepare urban young adults aged 18-24 for life and work in our technology-driven society, while guiding them toward successful careers and higher education.  Through a one-year, intensive training program, students receive a unique combination of hands-on technical and professional skills, college credit, and corporate internships.

Year Up is currently seeking a VISTA Development Associate.  Reporting to the Executive Director of Year Up Providence, the VISTA Development Associate will coordinate and implement fundraising activities to propel the site to its 2010 goal of $1M. Responsible for writing grants and proposals, cultivating and stewarding relationships with donors and prospective partners, tracking data, and driving proposal timelines and processes, the VISTA Development Associate will leverage the Executive Director and ensure that the development function is robust, professional, reflective of the mission of the organization.   This position is a one-year VISTA service position. APPLICATION DEADLINE 6/19/09!
There's been a lot of news lately about recent college graduates gravitating to the nonprofit sector. However, entry-level nonprofit opportunities can be hard to find, as many of these jobs are not always advertised through campus career centers or online job boards.

Class of '09, fear not. The opportunities are there if you do your homework and know where to look. To help steer you in the right direction, this month's article highlights a few examples of nonprofits that regularly offer entry-level opportunities.

Also in this newsletter, you'll find links to our current nonprofit searches, from entry-level to senior management, as well as the latest news from our blog and information about career-related events in the sector.

Sincerely,

The Team at Commongood Careers
